Toilet Guts, I Do & CBC

It was close to 745am when I rolled out bed and headed downstairs. It was sunny and gorgeous.  I started a pot of coffee then logged onto work just to check in. Thankfully things were quiet, and nothing requiring my immediate attention. I enjoyed at least 90 minutes of coffee and PC time before Mindy sent Eiknarf down around 10am. After a quick walk, I readied for a three mile weekend run. It was warm enough for shorts but I still wore loose, long running pants.

Mindy and the kids were up and about when I returned from my run. Mindy spent most of the morning and early afternoon working on report cards. I checked in with work, and once again things remained fairly quiet. I decided to get started on the guest bathroom toilet project, which entailed rebuilding the tank guts completely. I’ve replaced a number of valves, but the flapper continues to randomly stick open causing the toilet to run indefinitely if not caught. The project was moving along almost too smoothly until I got to the remounting the tank to the bowl piece. I swore a couple of times when I realized that I had to remove the tank again because I didn’t have the flusher tube at an angle like the directions clearly showed. Then I really swore once I reattached the water supply line only to find it leaking. Damn it!  Turns out, the rubber washer was stuck in the bottom of the old valve. I put the new one in and the leak stopped. All totaled, it took just a little more than an hour and about ten cuss words to complete the entire project.

Jacob managed to get under Mindy’s skin and was sent to his room. Of course he asked not 5 minutes later if he could come down. Mindy said no. As soon as I was done inside I headed out to work in the yard, first lopping off 6 or 7 low hanging branches from the red maples surrounding the deck then one out front.

Next, I cut down the ornamental grasses with electric hedge shears. I asked Mindy if she would send Jacob out to assist with the raking. He came, but was overtly disinterested. I did my best to overlook his poor disposition and handed him a rake and the tarp. He did a decent job until he spotted his dad’s car pull up out front.

I spent the rest of the afternoon trimming the deciduous shrubs front and back. I worked outside until roughly 230pm when I headed in clean-up for Josh & Rachel’s wedding. Mindy showered and dressed first. I played around on the internet until the bathroom was free. Given that I was on-call, I wasn’t in the best frame of mind heading off to wedding. I did my best shrug it off. Mindy headed off to pick-up a wedding card and gift card while I finished getting ready. Before she got back I had enough forethought to take Eiknarf on a walk since I wasn’t sure what time we’d be back home.

We left for the wedding at 345pm heading east on 70 to 71 north to the East Broad St exit. The First Congregation church is located right next to the museum. It’s a big, beautiful ornate building. They were doing the groom’s wedding party photos as we walked by and in. Mindy and I sat on the groom’s side of the church fairly close to the front and along the aisle. A really good spot for photos.

The wedding didn’t start for another 25 minutes or so, but once it did it moved swiftly. We exited the church and waited outside for the wedding party to exit before making our way to the Pinnacle Golf Club for the reception. We were some of the first to arrive making really good time. The weather was so nice they were serving open bar outdoors. Beer and wine were served gratis, but only Budweiser and Bud Light. I opted instead for a Jack & Coke. They were $7 each. We stood around outdoor before heading into the reception hall for a good hour enjoying small appetizers, drinks, and conversation.

When the time was right, Mindy struck up a conversation with neighbor Kenny, which is  something I knew she would do, in an effort to put their two week long mini-feud to rest. Both seemed eager to do so. I could tell Mindy felt a lot better after their chat.

The reception moved inside around 6pm, the bar following. I had three Jack & Cokes in total but then switched to ice water. Dinner was served around 7pm, and most of us went with the prime rib, which was prepared nicely. Hats off to the chef! The usual wedding stuff soon followed, the toasts, a DJ, the father daughter dance, etc. It was fun.

The time went by quickly. Many of our peeps were staying in a Grove City hotel and were shuttled to the Pinnacle Golf Club. But Mindy & I planned to drive home. In kind, we made a rather quiet exit just after 930pm determined to make a brief appearance at CBC before heading home.

Near 10pm when we arrived, CBC was only sparely populated. Jamie and Vince were working the bar and were their usual attentive selves. I asked for a Bodhi. Mindy asked for wine. And despite just coming from dinner, we ordered some of their yummy spinach artichoke dip too. I eventually had a 2nd Bodhi. Jamie brought Mindy another wine without be prompted, but Mindy couldn’t drink it. She was too tired. We headed home around 11pm. I paid the tab and drove.

We arrived home around 1115p. I quickly leashed up the pug and took her on a walk. Mindy was already in bed when we got back to the house. Eiknarf & I joined her in bed a few minutes later.
