Fleet of Foot

Happy Runnin' Anniversary to Me! I heard Mindy’s alarm go off. That’s never a good sign. Generally speaking, that means I’ve over slept. Sure enough, it was 5:40am. My sinuses were clogged and my throat ridiculously dry. I wondered if I might have the beginnings of a cold. Please NO! I started my exercise routine in earnest. I did my sit-ups, push-ups, and curls. I checked the temperature before heading out with Ykraps. It was 26 degrees and clear. The ground was covered with a thin layer of frost brought on by Sunday’s heavy melt off. I hoped the day’s forecast was right. We were supposed to hit the mid 50’s with an abundance of sunshine. It was well after 6am when I got back home. I delivered Mindy’s coffee even before taking the first sip of my own. I decided right then that I wasn’t gonna push it. Instead, I took my time moving through my morning routine. I am worth it! I spent time reading the Daily OM while sipping coffee. I also took the time to stretch my back and legs before meditation. Come 6:45am I prepped for my run. It had to be 6:50am or later when I finally launched. I wore a lighter version of my winter attire – thin running gloves and thin gaiter. I was perfectly comfortable. Daylight was breaking at the run’s outset. Soon I will be running in all daylight. Today was a fluke due to my late start. My run went well. Just a few small scattered ice patches remained. I knew that I was pushing up against Mindy’s departure time with my full run. I considered shortening it a mile to ensure that I made it back but didn’t. After all, today was my 12 year running streak anniversary. Of all days, this wasn’t the day to shorten it. Mindy was just backing out of the garage when I got home. Good timing! She said she knew that I got a late start so she didn’t fret over my late return. She wished me a happy running b-day and departed. Yes, I had to remind her that it was my special day. Imagine that, she forgot. I ate and then cleaned up the kitchen. It was already 7:45am. I decided not to shower until after seeing Jacob onto the bus. I was back home and in the shower by 8:05am. I was showered and dressed for work by 8:20am. I had to thaw the Trooper. There was a thin coating of frost covering all the windows. I left for work at 8:30am. Gas was $1.75 per gallon. I didn’t stop, having slightly less than a half tank. Work was quite active. Plus, I was overtly tired. I still had a slight twinge in my nose. I wondered if the Afrin I sprayed up my nose the night before might’ve contributed to my poor sleep. Probably. The work day progressed like most others. I didn’t take a formal lunch but did eat my salad and fruit around 2pm. As is often the case, I got hooked up on a couple important issues late in the day causing my departure to be 5:30pm even though I really wanted to leave early. I was completely exhausted. On my drive home I talked with Mindy, who was busy making spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. I was looking forward to the spaghetti. And what a lovely evening it was. The warm weather made for a slow and easy walk with Ykraps. Mindy was serving up dinner as we re-entered the house. I had a full plate of spaghetti and meatballs along with a garden salad. Incidentally, Bella was helping her mom prep tomorrow’s lunches. She was busy making my salad when I got home. I asked if she’d washed her hands prior. She had. I guess the question I should have asked was, how much prior? J I love spaghetti but don’t like the clean-up. It’s as messy as it gets and there are always two pots and a strainer to wash. Landon was orange head to toe. Rocky didn’t fair much better. He has spaghetti sauce all over his bright white school polo – even in the arm pits. It was truly the clean-up that wouldn’t end. Mindy got the kids ready for bed while I stayed busy updating my blog. I had six days written but unpublished. It took a while to post. After PC time Mindy & I watched 24. Halfway through, Mindy professed herself ready for bed. Now how can you watch half of 24 and then suddenly up and got to bed? She came to the balcony a minute or so later and asked if I’d come to bed if she turned the TV to 24 in our room. I accepted. She watched it in its entirety along with me. We turned the TV off just as the news came on.
