Booster Shots

The neighborhood children swangin': Makayla, Lilly, & Evan

I didn’t sleep all that well. My shoulders ached through much of the night. Still, I managed to wake just before 5:30am to get going with my day. I had put the garbage to the curb last night forgetting that it was Columbus Day. It’s not exactly one of those holidays one easily identifies with unless you happen to be a government employee.

I was quickly over any lingering effects of the weekend and ready to get on with my routine. I was alert and awake while walking with Ykraps. Because I was ahead of the curve, I was able to do everything I normally do and even managed a good meditation before my run. It was still very warm. The temperature at 6:30am was already a balmy 71 degrees. It’s definitely been more like August rather than October. Not to worry, though. By Wednesday the bottom’s supposed to fall out. We’ll be dealing with lows in the lower 40’s and highs in the lower 60’s – much more seasonable. I’ll take 74 and sunny with one day of moderate rain each week– and make that Tuesdays please.

My run went well. I was out about five minutes ahead of schedule throwing a monkey wrench into my usual encounters. I felt terrific. I was home just after 7am doing my cool down stretches on the front porch. Mindy had our eggs just about ready on the stove. I served them up so that she could do some of her own prep. After ten minutes or so of hanging out together, Mindy & Bella departed for school.

Jacob and I moved on with our morning like most others. I remained a good five or ten minutes ahead of schedule. Jacob insisted on heading to the bus stop early. We got there at 7:52am. We had over ten minutes until the bus arrived. But it was a lovely morning so no harm!

I left for work. It was 8:12am. The morning went well. Good things were happening everywhere. My day was split into two halves thanks to a Home Depot jaunt for lunch. I headed there around 1pm. I wanted to get a sheet of plywood or hardboard cut to size to put on my garage wire shelving to prevent fall-thru. I also bought some organizing drawers for all of my miscellaneous hardware (screws, nails, electrical supplies, etc…), and some gutter screen drains for my five downspouts. I was happy to see that Home Depot now carries clay colored gutters and downspouts – the exact match to my own. Able wanted an extra $1000 to do my gutters when all that’s damaged are three sections of down spouting. I can buy the materials for less than thirty bucks! GREAT!

I returned to work by 1:50pm. First, I ate my packed lunch and then got back into the day’s work. I didn’t manage to leave for the day until 5:20pm. I called Mindy from my Blackberry since I apparently left my personal cell phone at home. She was at Target with Bella, who just had her five year check-up with Dr. Craig. She got three booster shots and didn’t cry during a one. Apparently that earned her more toys. Great – just what she needs after hauling in a truck load only yesterday. :) Mindy talked of stopping at the Big Fat Greek Cuisina on her way home for carryout dinner. That suited me well. I didn’t feel up to grilling. It was still 90 degrees.

When I arrived home the house was quiet. I walked Ykraps before tending to a number of smallish chores. I readied the next day’s coffee, emptied the two party coolers, and straightened up the family room. By the time I finished the family arrived home with dinner in tow. We sat at the kitchen table and dined as a family. The gyros were good, but I wasn’t all that hungry. I ate something less than half. Satisfied, I put the remainder in the fridge for another time. The kids dashed off to play with friends after dinner. I washed all the stray dishes by hand, including Jacob’s lunch containers as well as my own.

Jacob came back home sooner rather than later. He asked Mindy and I to play “Go Fish”. We played two hands. I won the first on my initial turn!! Hey, I play to win. After cards I moved onto a little organizing. I took advantage of the two coolers that were already upstairs from yesterday’s party and stashed them away on my new overhead camping gear shelf in the garage. I placed all the hardboard shelves I bought earlier on the wire shelving too. That went well.

Mindy rushed the kids upstairs to ready for bed. In the meantime I did some work on my blog. I finished writing Friday and Saturday and uploaded both. However, I’m more than a week behind on pictures. I was eager to get to the TV to catch the Indians/Yankees game #4. The Indians could clinch a trip to the ALCS with a win. I bounced back and forth between baseball and MNF. The Indians won and so did the Cowboys.
