It's 2007

1) The kids - Happy New Year! 2) Traditional New Year's dinner - sauerkraut and pork 3) Ash taking Olivia's pic 4) Mindy, Bella, and Oliva sharing a moment After drinking six beers, a Jack and Coke, and two glasses of champagne while ringing in the new year, morning came all too quickly. Thankfully, though, the kids stayed in bed until after we were up. We laid in bed until after 9am. Wisely I had taken three Advil before hitting the sack, so I didn’t have a hangover. Unfortunately, what I had instead was a cold. I began suspecting I might be catching one while were shopping yesterday afternoon. My sinuses became swollen, clogged, and runny while we were at Pat & Lisa’s party. Mindy found her nasal spray for me in the middle of the night. It worked great! I could at least breathe. She woke me once during the night threw me out of bed for snoring so loud. I went downstairs to sit up and watch TV. She swore later that she only asked me to rollover. But what I heard was get out. Hmm! I completed all of my exercises by 10am, but getting started did not come at all easy. My head was in a fog, and I was going through Puffs like a mad man. At 10:45am I left for my run. The cool, damp air felt good on my sinuses. And at least temporarily, I felt total relief. That’s another piece of wisdom of learned being a runner. Most side effects from being ill are masked while physically exerting oneself. I returned form my run just before 11:30am. For the first time in a long while, I kept my running within the confines of Scioto Woods. Now, that seemed unusual. Mindy made maple bacon and pancakes while I ran. I enjoyed some of each upon my return. Football was already on the tube and just guess who was already glued to the TV. If you guessed Jacoby you’d be correct! He’s become a football junky. What’s worse, he continuously asks all of the hypothetical questions posing teams against one another asking who I think would win. It was fun at first but it’s been going on now for weeks. He asks questions like these …who do you think would win if the Buckeyes played the Vikings? Or, … who would you rout for if I played for the Bengals and they played Vikings? And if he’s not asking a question he’s taunting me with, “Jimmy loves Michigan”. The day was very low key. Mindy worked further at consolidating Xmas stuff into storage. She’s taken down all of the decorations in the house save for the trees – inside and out. I wrestled with the kids for a while until Mindy went to take a nap. Bella, for whatever reason, ran to her room and cried for ten solid minutes. Finally, Mindy coaxed her to nap. In the meantime, I readied the hot tub for a soaking. I was grungy and feeling ill. A good hot tubbing sounded ideal. Jacob asked to get in also. In the end he backed out. It was just me. It felt great! I stayed in for about 30 minutes, or until I began to prune. Once I was out it was 3pm. I woke Mindy somewhat hesitantly but thought that she might want to put the pork roast on. She was happy I woke her. I sat at the dining room table and read for about an hour. Sometime around 3:45pm Ashley returned my call from earlier and accepted our invitation to join us for dinner. Her and Olivia would be over around 5-5:30pm. The Rose Bowl was about to kick-off. It was now 4:30pm. The weather in Southern California looked splendid – mid seventies and sunny. The game was a slow moving toss up for the first 30 minutes. The teams went to the locker room knotted at 3-3. I was pulling for Michigan since they’re the big ten. Jacoby, or course, was pulling for USC. Ashley arrived right on time. We hung out and talked for a spell and she unloaded some Stephen baggage. She was very emotional. I overheard some of her dialogue with Mindy. She’s lost. She keeps fishing in the wrong pond. By the sounds of it, the guys she’s hanging around are as bad or even worse than Stephen. I had to laugh when I overheard Mindy’s casual friendly advice on finding the right guy. She recommended coffee houses and such. I just can’t see Ashley biting! J Nice try princess! Olivia was hungry around the same time dinner was ready. Ashley, as it turned out, wasn’t too keen on pork and sauerkraut. Although, later she ate some of my famous sausage bake which is technically the same ingredients. She fed Olivia while we ate. I held Olivia after dinner. I just love spending quality time with her. She’s so cute and loveable! She seemed a bit tight – perhaps FOS (full of shit). Mindy gave her some gas drops for babies. Soon she was as peaceful as the day calm. Come 7:30pm Ashley and Olivia left. Mindy coaxed the kids to bed in an effort to re-establish normalcy. We stayed up until the Rose Bowl ended. Michigan lost and lost big 33-19. We watched the beginning of the Fiesta Bowl from bed. I took a ½ a dose of Nyquil and squirted more of Mindy’s nasal drops up my long nose. Boise State scored two quick touchdowns on the highly favored Oklahoma Sooners. But that’s where I fell asleep. It probably wasn’t even 9pm.
