Folks It's Chili
We were awakened by the kids wanting to get up and play as early as 7:00am. Mindy, being the good parent that she is, insisted they play quietly in their rooms. And for the most part, they did. We slept until about 8:15am. When I finally jumped out of bed, Iwas determined ot get going. And I am always like that. Mindy, however, wanted to snuggle. Instead, I gave her a quick hug and got going with my day. I was determined not to sleep what was left of the morning away.
By the time I finished my exercises I felt pretty darn good. Ykraps and I took off on our walk shortly after 8:30am. He was anxious to get outside. Once again, it was quite chilly. While I was making coffee after returning home, Mindy and the kids joined me downstairs. Unfortunately, I was really longing for more private, quiet time, although I knew that it wasn’t justified.
For whatever reason, my need for solitude ran counter to Mindy’s need for extra attention. I did my best to manage.
Come 9:30, it was time to ready for a run. I dawned my running gear then took off into temps still hovering in the low 20’s. I ran the Trabue Rd route having not gone that way for a couple of weeks. It was pleasant. Upon my return, Mindy had scrambled eggs ready for me. That was a bit of a surprise and made me happy!
We didn’t do much with the rest of our morning and early afternoon short of cleaning up a little. Although, I did get caught up in several work related matters. In between dealing with work, I began making the chili I had so looked forward to making and tasting. I had it in the new Crock Pot by 1pm.
Come 2:30pm, Mindy and the kids left for a birthday party at the Galaxy Golf Party house just down the road. I stayed home tending to work and the chili. And finally, after staring at a stack of paid bills and other miscellaneous receipts that had been piling up since before Xmas, I filed them away. That task lead to more organizational related chores. Next, I cleaned up the entertainment center. There were several CD cases that needed stowed away, and all the electronics needed cleaned & polished. I took the time to clean them well.
While organizing, I decided to put in an old VHS tape from the summer of 1990. It was titled Courtney’s b-day & camping trip. The video quality was surprisingly good. The video brought a tear to my eye seeing all three of my girls in their youthful joy. My how things have changed in the last 16-17 years. Included on the tape were shots of both of my grandmother’s sitting together pouring over my niece when she was a just baby. Everyone looked strikingly younger (go figure). I hadn’t seen this tape in maybe 10 years!
Four o’ clock came quickly. As asked, I had left a VM for Shelly, Kaileigh’s step mom, indicating that Mindy would be coming by around 4:15pm to pick her up. Mindy phoned around 4:25pm to let me know that she was there to pick-up Kaileigh but that no one was home. I called and left another message. Mindy headed home. Now, we weren’t sure whether Kaileigh would be joining us tonight or not.
Shelly called around 6pm to let us know that they were finally home and that Kaileigh still wanted to come over. I volunteered to drive over & pick her up. Bella agreed to join me. We left after pulling the corn bread out of the oven. We picked Kaileigh up around 6:30pm. She brought along a dress to wear to church as well as clothes to wear to Gloria’s tomorrow for Sunday dinner.
Back at home, I immediately walked Ykraps while the kids got acclimated to one another. Mindy made macaroni and cheese for the kids. They weren’t too interested in chili. We all sat down to eat shortly thereafter. At first, Kaileigh said she wasn’t hungry. But it wasn’t long before she asked for some mac & cheese anyhow. She ended up eating two plates full! :)
Mindy was getting very tired and had been dragging most of the day. I think she drank a bit too much the night before. She did have a couple glasses of wine and a heavy Stout at Barleys. After readying the kids for bed and tucking them in, she went to bed herself. It was no later than 8PM.
Bella and Kaileigh were high maintenance for the next hour or so. Kaileigh needed some cold medicine, and they both got out of bed at least three more times. Eventually, Kaileigh asked if she could come sleep on the sofa, or with the bedroom light on. She claimed that she often sleeps with the TV on as well as an over head light. But the light would’ve kept Bella up all night. I opted to let her sleep on the sofa while I read instead. Bella seemed fine with that idea in part because she was so tired herself. Kaileigh fell asleep within five minutes of lying on the sofa. I read until about 9:45pm when my eyes got too heavy. I headed to bed very early for a Saturday.
