Yoga till you Puke
Woke to sprinkles and 34 degrees near 740am.. My hopes of making it a ski day were pretty much dashed.
Spent a decent chunk of time enjoying coffee and internet. Mindy was up, I'm thinking somewhere close to 945am. Ahead of my run, we discussed what we might do with our day. Since skiing was out, Mindy suggested Yoga. She shared that the class started at 1145am and went or 90 minutes. Sounded good to me. After all, she got me a 5 time pass for Xmas, and it's something I've been wanting to try for a couple years now.
I left for my run near 10am. It was cloudy and mild, still hovering in the mid/upper 30s. Ran three miles. Easy!
By the time I made it back to the house, Mindy was already in her yoga attire and busy with laundry and light house cleaning. I wanted/needed a shower before going to yoga. I was sweaty and stinky, the stink mostly from stale running clothes. While I got a shower, Mindy whipped up scrambled eggs laced with cheese and bacon bits. They were delicious. However, in hindsight, I might've eaten too much.
We left the house near 1115am. Arrived at Grow Yoga in Grandview 12-15 minutes later. Being a rookie, I had no idea what to expect. While signing us in, Mindy shared that I needed to remove my shoes and socks as well as all other personal belongings and stow them in one of the many cubbies in the lobby. And then, while completing my personal info sheet and signing a medical release, the owner advised that I should remove my ball cap too. No biggie, but now I had hat head. :(
Before going on, I need to share that I wasn't yet 100%, ever since the prior Sunday. Still battling a mildly upset stomach (queasy) and tired. The yoga studio itself is a large room with wooden floors where we all rolled out our yoga mats. It was noticeably warm, too warm, really, and the class, at least according to Mindy, was unusually full. Must have been 20+ attending. There might've been 3' separating each of us.
Jenna was our young instructor, a cute, sturdy, 20 something. The class was not a beginner class per se, meaning she took no time to explain moves, poses, etc, Instead, I had to take my cues from others nearby, including Mindy, who was set up right next to me. Even before we got started I wasn't feeling that great. I was feeling a tad nauseous and also too full from the scrambled eggs. The heat in the room wasn't helping either.
We jumped right into the Hatha yoga. I completed most of the poses/stretches without too much problem. I'm guessing 20 minutes or so into the class, I began to feel uncomfortable. What I wasn't prepared for was the lack of a break between movements, stretches, poses. Soon I was hot & sweaty and my energy stores depleted. I told Mindy more than once that I thought I could puke. I hung in there, though, doing my best to fight through it.
Long story short, I didn't throw-up, but certainly could've. By the end I was hanging on by a thread. I couldn't wait to get outside in the cool fresh air. As soon as the class was over I rushed to my cubbie and my stuff then outside. I can only liken it to that sick feeling one gets after a spinny ride at Cedar Point. I wanted nothing more than to lie down and sleep with a cold pillow. Mindy offered to drive, but I figured as a passenger it would only get worse. I drove us home winding our way through Arlington. Ugh! As soon as we pulled in the drive I rushed into the house and onto the floor with a pillow. I slept for an hour or so and felt quite about better, but still not perfect when I got up.
Mindy and I took a more formal nap late afternoon. Felt odd being in bed as the clock neared 4pm. Aside from my run and yoga, I'd done nothing productive. I played on my computer for an hour or so near 5pm. And it was about then that we nailed down our dinner plans, which was to visit CBC . I know. Big surprise!
Left for CBC around 615pm. Drove the Accord. Called mom on the drive there. Said she was feeling a little better. Arrived at CBC near 635pm. Parked across the street in the Kroger lot. Inside, the bar was full. Vince and Emily were tending bar. They had Bodhi on tap, and poured each of us one even before we asked. We stood at the far corner of the bar area for a good 30 minutes before a couple stools freed. I didn't mind. Standing actually felt good. From our position, Vince served us up some risotto balls. Yum! In the meantime, one stool freed at the corner. For another 15 minutes or so, Mindy sat while I stood. Soon we had two stools.
Perhaps an hour later we were joined John & Carol, the parents of Kelly, Bella's gymnastics instructor. They're really fun to hang out with. Have a few things in common despite them being a 1/2 generation older than us. Well, more like a full generation to Mindy.
I think I had three Bodhi's across the entire evening, but resorted to water only more than an hour before we left for home. That left Mindy free to consume as much as her heart desired, and I think that equated to 4 beers in total. John & Carol left around 1025pm, and we were supposedly right on their heels. I was still not 100% and really sleepy. I was more than ready to go. In fact, had John & Carol not been there. I most likely would've suggested we head home by 930pm.
As she often does, especially when she's had a little too much to drink, Mindy had to stop and chat with most of the help on the way out the door. Emily's boyfriend (also a former CBC employee) had just walked in too. He recently started a new job as an engineer for Honda. We both stopped and chatted with him for a couple minutes. From there, Mindy went on and on with others while I stood waiting by the door. Before heading out she insisted on locating Vince and saying goodbye. He was nestled into a booth at the back of the restaurant along with some other servers.
On her way, Windy apparently encountered a former teacher peer, who was dining with her finally. Really? She stopped to chat with her now too. Glancing my way, I waved her my way. Let's go! She insisted otherwise, and asked me to come so she could introduce. No! By then, it had been 20 minutes since we paid our tab and coated up. I headed out to the car. Once the car was warm I pulled down and around to the front of the bar. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting! Five minutes passed. Ten minutes passed. Really? I sent a text. I called her cell. She finally came out at 11:04pm. By then steam was coming out my ears. I drove us home in complete silence.
At home, Mindy headed right to bed. I took up refuge on the sofa planning to watch SNL.I made it through the first 3 or 4 minutes before falling asleep. Woke around midnight and headed for bed.
