I woke on time, quickly brushed my teeth then headed downstairs. Put drops in my eyes, slipped into exercise shoes, and glanced out the back door. As expected, clear skies overhead. Added some water to my cup and headed to the living room to do some sit-ups.
Checked the weather next. It was more than 10 degrees cooler than it has been, only 62 degrees. The day’s forecast called for a high of 78 degrees. That sounded good to me. Read some headlines. Nothing jumped right out at me. Onto push-ups.
After 55 push-ups I leashed up Eiknarf and headed out the back door. The morning air definitely felt cooler than the 62 degrees temperature, but then again, it’s been well into the 70’s for the past 4 mornings. Felt good though. We walked our usual route, and Eiknarf took her dear old time. She only peed.
It was near 6am. I poured some coffee then returned briefly to my PC where I read the Daily OM and glanced over brother Glenn’s blog. At 610a I headed back to the familyroom for meditation and stretching. Meditation went really well. My head was in the right place. Stretching was next and it went well too. My shoulders and neck are feeling really good of late. And what’s important to note is that I’ve been doing lots of yard work and then golfing, which are typically huge pain triggers. I haven’t been taking any Ibuprofen either. One more thing about stretching, my tight right hamstring had been bothering me to some extent for 2 or 3 years. It hasn’t been an issue lately either. Could it be that I’ve happened upon a fountain of youth?
I delivered Mindy’s coffee with the help of Eiknarf. Mindy was busy splashing water of her face and brushing her teeth. Said she was skipping shower after taking one just before bed. I headed downstairs where I readied and left for a run.
It was sunny with a slight chill in the air, perfect for a run. I wore shorts and my new shades. Man, did I look cool! I ran the full 4.1 mile loop like a man on a mission. Back at home, I encountered Bella out walking Eiknarf towards the O’Connell’s house. We walked back home together.
Inside, Mindy was on cloud nine, this being her last ‘real’ day of school (last day with students). Our kids, however, go through Friday. Mindy was dressed as if she were going to a picnic. Said she’d be spending part of the day in the dunk tank. Or maybe that was drunk tank??? J
Mindy made cheesy scrambled eggs for breakfast. There was plenty for all, Bella and Eiknarf included. In fact, there was so many leftover that I stored some in the fridge for Eiknarf on Friday am. Just before Mindy left, she had the kids sign a gift card for Mrs. Vanorder, their bus driver. It was just after 730a when Mindy departed and I headed up for a shower.
I was fast to ready and back downstairs by 750a. I packed my lunch with the few minutes I had before bus stop time. We headed out for the bus at 757a. We met Chrissy and the girls there. I made sure that Bella handed the gift card to Mrs. Vanorder then walked back home with Eiknarf.
I drove the BM’er again. It was a perfect day for it too. The work day was a rather easy one for a change. I dealt with a lot of my administrative tasks and left the daily operations to my peers overseas. I decided not to leave at lunch time. Instead, I ate my packed lunch near 1pm and did some writing.
I finally got the call from my new boss officially welcoming me to his team around 215p. I’ll have two more weeks in my current role, but doing some training sometime during that 2nd week. I’ll be on vacation the week after that. I had to remind him of my pending vacation. I shared that with him last Friday. He was fine with it.
I let my peer know that I got the job, not to gloat, but so he could move forward as well. I spent the afternoon catching up on more administrative stuff. An old work pal that happens to report to my new boss pinged me late afternoon asking for some help. I figured he must’ve heard about my new gig. I stopped up to see him. My new boss was right around the corner. I talked to him on my way to Russ’ office.
He followed me in and introduced me as their newest team member. He really did need my help. I showed him what he needed then headed back to my own office on the 5th floor.
Heard from Mindy sometime around 330p. She was excited and singing Alice Cooper’s School’s Out. She and her peeps were headed to the local Applebees. I ended up at the office until 540p.
I arrived home right at 6pm. Mindy was busy making dinner. The kids were off playing with friends. Mindy was anxious to show me this letter that one her first graders handed her earlier that morning. It was a hot pink sheet of paper with a brief note in huge hand written font. It said. "Stop Harassing my daughter Bitch" Mindy was incensed. She took it immediately to the office and gave it to her principal. He claimed he would be stopping by her home after school to discuss the matter. Mindy wasn’t so sure he’d follow through. To put in kindly, apparently that isn’t one of his strengths. Mindy’s had issues with this kid’s mother all year. I believe it’s the girl that’s missed as many as 50 school days.
While Mindy grilled the inferno chicken, I headed out to water flowers. She said I had 20 about minutes. For the first time all season, the grass was showing signs of stress, drying out here and there. It’s time to set the irrigation system for a regular watering cycle. Thus far I had only tested each zone manually.
I didn’t quite finish the watering when the call to dinner came. I left the hose and loaded when I headed in. Mindy’s made her inferno chicken several times now, but this was the first time on the grill. I liked it even better than before. We had a dinner guest, Makayla. She stayed with us while Chrissy took Lillian to soccer tryouts. Along with the inferno chicken, Mindy made corn on the cob. Still not sure how she got each kernel to stick to those cobs. It wasn’t good at all. After two bites I sat mine aside. Problem was, it wasn’t fresh. No taste.
After dinner, I excused myself then headed out back to finish the watering. I took the time to fetch the wall mount hose caddy that I mount to the side of the deck. That hose allows me to reach the depths of the backyard and water the hanging geranium baskets in the ash trees. I worked outside until 8p or so then fetched my book and did some reading from the chaise lounger on the deck’s lower tier. That was quite relaxing. Mindy had the kids shower after playing on the trampoline all evening. And since she was over, Mindy had Makayla take a shower too.
We tucked the kids into bed around 930p then headed to bed ourselves around 10p.
