Uh-oh, I got off to a late start, not waking until 535a. Not a big deal, but wanting to document it just the same. It was clear and 50 degrees, the temperature I confirmed online after sit-ups. We're expecting a big change in our weather beginning today. Not supposed to reach much beyond 70, and then even cooler highs towards the end of the week.
I took Frankie outside after coffee. She was once again more interested in playing rather than taking care of business. But I was determined to stay out with her until she did both 1 & 2. She eventually took care of business, but that was after burning up about 15 minutes. That’ll have to change. Perhaps I’ll be giving her a morning squeeze. :)
Mediation and stretching went well, although mediation was shorter in duration than desired, but I had to get back on track time-wise. Stretching felt terrific. Little by little my right hamstring is feeling better. I delivered Frankie and coffee to Mindy, and happily shared that she took care of business. Soon after, I left for my run. I must’ve been out the door somewhere near 640a.
I ran the full 4.1 miles. I was a bit over dressed. Wore a winter wicking shirt and a pullover fleece, attire I would typical wear with temps as cold as 25 degrees. I had planned to roll the trashcan out for pick-up but remembered that Monday was the Columbus Day holiday. That means trash day now becomes Thursday. Note to self.
Mindy had fluffy, cheese covered scrambled eggs waiting my return. No Bella. Mindy shared that she claimed to be sick. And she sounded as much after Mindy hollered for her to come down. Said her throat hurt and felt nauseous. Uh-oh! I was waiting for the other shoe to drop but it never did. Mindy said her temp was fine. Apparently gave her some Tylenol, too. Mindy convinced her to eat something and then she’d most likely feel better. Before walking out the door, Mindy advised her to go to the nurses office and call her if she didn’t start feeling better. In the back of my mind, it would’ve been nice to take the day off and stay home with Bella, but on the other hand, I don’t like to do it unless absolutely necessary.
I was soon off to the shower after giving Bella instructions on what she needed to have done in short order: her hair, teeth, and room. She was already starting to feel and sound better.
I was back downstairs around 750a. Mindy left a check on the island for Rachel. It was a house cleaning day. Hooray! It needed it too. I hollered for the kids at 757a. They were quick to get their shoes and book bags and head out the door. And yes, I took Frankie along too. I let Kenny know that we planned to golf after work, but he said he couldn’t. Taking Mike & Julie to dinner for the 5th anniversary. Nice! He can’t golf Saturday either.
The kids were on the bus at 805a. After some brief banter, I returned home with Frankie where I made last minute preparations for work. The last thing I did was run the dishwasher. I drove the Trooper after seeing that there was a slight chance of evening rain.
I listened to a Deepak Chopra CD on my way into work. Left me in a much better frame of mind than listening to sports squawk, or any other radio program does. I arrived at work just after 830a.
Work went well. We were quite busy. I called the water company to try and put our water bill dilemma to rest, but the young lady that took my call said they hadn’t yet received the information from the inspector. Said to give them 7-10 more days. Lovely! Emailed the Bob’s inquiring about golf specifics. Decided on Mentel (formerly Bolton). Haven’t golfed there for at least 3 years. I let my boss know my intentions to golf – leaving around 415p. Probably one or two weeks left before it’ll be too dark to finish nine holes.
I talked with Mindy around 345p. Let her know that golf was on. She was just arriving home to intercept the kids. Things at work were busy, but also stable. I left work at 410p. As I exited the building, a female employee whom I wasn’t familiar with commented that it was a good afternoon for nine holes. I smiled and shared that that was exactly where I was headed. When asked where, I replied, “Mentel”, she looked at me funny.
It was a quick drive to the course, down I-270S to the Georgesville RD exit and then to Norton. I arrived at 433p. The Bob’s looked to have just arrived too, although slightly ahead of me. The clubhouse shared that it was $19.95 for 9 holes and a cart, or $20 for 18 and a cart. We laughed and took the 18 hole deal all the while knowing we couldn’t get in 18 holes before dark. However, we could almost certainly play more than nine.
We tee’d off hole #10 since there was no one coming up on nine. I started well, bogey – birdie, but then managed a triple bogey on the first par 3. I didn’t let it bother me though. I followed with another par, then another bogey, although Bob I., I later learned, marked me down for a double-bogey. Had to be a mistake, I chose not to point it out. I ended up with another birdie, too. Only this time it was a tap-in birdie after nailing a 6-iron from 160 yards out. I finished hole #9 with a 7, but wasn’t too bummed. Just a little misfortune.
I asked Bob if he was interested in going with us to see Roger Waters next Friday. He shared that Mary Ann doesn’t care for him at all. I took that as a no, but he never clearly answered.
We ended up playing hole # 1 then #18 over again. It was getting hard to see. Not only was the sun setting, but clouds were moving in making quick work of the available daylight. After golf we chatted briefly in the lot before heading our separate ways. Bob B is off to California Friday. Sounds like fun. We may golf next Saturday.
I called Mindy on my drive home. It was damn near dark and only 715p. I arrived home 10 minutes later. Jacob pulled up on his bike at the same time. We entered through the garage together. I was really hungry. After eating some cheese and lean sliced lunch meat, I made myself a plate of tortilla chips smothered in sharp cheddar cheese and my homemade salsa. Quite good!
While I ate, Mindy and the kids watched the Chilean miner rescue Live via her laptop. At first I wasn’t interested, but quickly became mesmerized by the effort. I ended up finding it on TV – FOX News. We watched until the 33rd and final miner was pulled to safety. Said there were a billion people watching worldwide. That’s something when you consider the world’s population is 6.8 billion. That’s roughly 15%.
During the rescue, I asked Mindy if she received the email I forwarded detailing the lunar phases and a model showing how/why we see the moon as we do. She did, but wondered why I sent it. Thought she might want to share with her class. She claims that’s a 2nd grade lesson, not 1st graders. Oh! I quizzed her to see if she understood why we always see the same face of the moon. She knew but couldn’t quite explain it in words.
During and after the rescue, I stretched and then did some curls from the familyroom floor. I eventually tuned to the Science Channel where I watched a program about black holes. They’re all the rage these days it seems. Lots of shows about them anymore. Mindy headed to bed at 930p. I, however, stayed up until 1030p and even enjoyed a bowl of Wheaties. I could hear the pitter-patter of rain on the skylights just before heading for bed.
