My headache and fever continued through the night. In fact, I woke around 3am in severe pain moaning and groaning. Mindy got up and fetched me an 800mg Ibuprofen. Once it kicked in, I was able to sleep soundly. I slept until 6:10am. Normally, I would‘ve been a little uneasy waking so late, but on this day I was simply happy to be up and functioning. My fever was for the most part gone and my headache only very slight. However, I was still feeling ill.
I worked through my calisthenics slowly. Thinking of them on the whole, I couldn’t see getting through them. But taking them one sit-up, and then one push-up at a time I eventually did. After walking Ykraps I turned my attention to my run. As I sipped coffee I at least began feeling a bit more energetic. I knew I could do it. After all, I’ve been running ill a lot lately. Lucky for me, I had spring in my legs. That helped make up for my stuffy head. I ran three miles. Boy did I sweat!
Back at home I did the usual – packed my lunch and made my breakfast. By the time I headed for the shower I felt OK save for some minor fatigue and a slight headache. Mindy was glad I felt a bit better but still insisted that I call my doctor. I promised that I would. After my shower, but before I left the house, I spent a little time on the deck with Mindy drinking in the sunshine. It was a lovely morning.
I drove the BM’er even though there was a chance of late afternoon storms. The work day started at a frantic pace but calmed quickly. I remembered to call my doctor around 10am. They asked me if I could be in at 1:15pm. Yes! I then began to worry if the doctor would think I’m crazy. But work was again feverish so I got lost in that until 12:50pm.
I arrived at the Doc’s office at 1:05pm. I waited just a few minutes before they called me back. I weighed in at 172lbs fully clothed (generally 167lbs naked). The nurse took my BP but didn’t disclose the numbers. Later, I was ushered back to my own private quarters where she took my temperature – 99.3. There I waited for a rather extended period of time while Doctor B. fussed with another patient in her own quarters. While waiting, I reviewed my symptoms in my head and thought about what I would share. All of it: my groin strain, my ongoing cold, sinus issue, and my overall stiffness. Sure, he’ll think I’m crazy but what the hey.
While waiting I realized a rash all about my forearms. Geesh! I am a train wreck, I thought to myself. What could this mean? My imagination ran wild. Finally, DR B. came in. For seeing me on average only once every other year, he remembers me by face. I share first that I’m simply a mess. A once never-sick guy who of late is always sick. I went on further. He’s good about letting me ramble, probably figuring it therapeutic in and of itself. He rechecked my BP three times seeing it settle at 126 over 74 on the left arm. He noticed my pulse was much higher than usual – 67 bpm. My normal bpm is around 45-50. He chalked that up to being ill.
Based on my symptoms and description he surmised that I had a sinus infection and prescribed a much stronger antibiotic than I took three weeks ago. He figured my rash due to meds – namely the Mucinex it took lat night on Mindy’s insistence. It’s the only new med introduced in the past day. Finally, he did some blood work to address my concern about possible arthritis and routine stiffness. We also agreed that being ill will cause that, especially when mixed with my daily exercise regiment. I was satisfied with that for now. But even I know that doctors aren’t magicians. They largely diagnose off of symptoms witnessed and described, the law of averages, and what they’ve seen walk through their doors more recently. Evaluating by symptoms alone cold lead one down the wrong path quickly. I took my script and headed back to work.
The afternoon went fairly quickly. I didn’t feel well at all, but battled through it. I was very happy as 5:30pm approached. But just as often happens, I got sidetracked on a work issue and forget about time. But that’s when a peer dashed into my office warning me of a fast approaching storm and the fact that my Z3 top was down. I appreciated the heads up. Yep, he was right. The sky looked quite ominous out west. In fact, it looked like tornado-type clouds dangling on the horizon. I quickly closed up shop and dashed out for the day. The storm was still a mile or so away but the wind was really kicking up. And because there are so many cotton woods nearby, it looked like a snow storm as I drove towards the Mill Run CVS to fill my prescription. I was very worried that a tornado might hit with me in my tiny little Z3. It was kicking up that bad. However, the first drop of rain had yet to fall.
In CVS, they told me that it would take about 15 minutes to fill my script. Fine. I browsed their wares. I felt rough, and their ice cold AC didn’t help matters. I wasn’t away from the counter two minutes before Heather paged me back to the pharmacy. I thought they might’ve filled my script already but that wasn’t the case. Instead, she wanted to inform me that they only had three of the ten Levaquin tablets prescribed. She said they’d give me those and have the rest for me on Thursday. Fine with me. Further, I wouldn’t pay until then either. I was soon on my way home. Mindy earlier informed me that she was making homemade chicken and noodles. The noodles were from the Der Dutchman. Yummy! I was craving them on the drive home.
It poured extremely hard on my drive home. I learned that my BM’er doesn’t handle well in standing/running water. Yikes! It was coming down in sheets, and sideways, too. We got a pounding to be sure.
Mindy had already walked Ykraps so I didn’t have to. I appreciated that for how poorly I was feeling. I took my first dosage of Levaquin immediately. I then sat down to eat my noodles. Mindy soon had to dash off to vacation bible school with the kids. I was left alone to rest. I was already beginning to feel better just an hour after taking my first dose. In addition to the Levaquin, I took two regular Advil for the headache pain.
Mindy and I spent our time relaxing together while the kids were at bible school. It was nice despite me being under the weather. When she finally left to fetch the kids I took to my PC to update my blog. I felt 10 times better in a short amount of time. She was gone almost an hour. When she returned we readied the kids as well as ourselves for bed.
Suddenly, once we were in bed, I no longer felt sleepy. What? Come on!
