I woke just after 8am. Mindy had told the children not to wake either of us unless it was an emergency. Bella came in right around 8am for some reason. It wasn’t an emergency. For the time being, Mindy stayed in bed. I got up. I felt well rested, however, after 10 hours of sleep.
I prepped a pot of Starbucks before churning out some sit-ups. It wasn’t long before I was out walking Ykraps. It felt good to not have a pressing deadline. All I had to do was squeeze in a run before noon. That I could handle easily. Mindy was up shortly after my return from walking Ykraps. By then it was 9am. I left for a run around 9:30am. It was a nice sunny run. As a change of pace, I ran along Trabue & Hague being very careful, of course, as traffic approached. The traffic aside, it’s my path of choice. The spring birds were singing again this morning. Before we know it, the weather will turn and I’ll be workin’ the soil. I’m looking forward to it.
We didn’t have our usual family breakfast. Not sure why. Mindy helped ready Jacob for Noah’s b-day party. He’s one of Jacob’s school pals. The party started at 11:30am. Soon after they departed I showered in preparation for Ashley’s move. After my shower I decided to scrub the soaking tub, which was long overdue. It collects dust ridiculously fast, and the live fern setting on the deck had dropped a bunch of spent foliage. That took 20 minutes. Tommy arrived while I toiled. Bella greeted him and kept him entertained until Mindy returned home and I finished my chore.
Because our storage facility was in Mindy’s name, she had to sign for the moving truck. We drove her van. Tommy drove his pick-up. The rental process went smoothly. Soon we were driving back to our storage unit. I haven’t returned since we closed the door July 31 of 2006 (1 year & 5 months). Nothing’s changed. Looks like it did that day. We made quick work of grabbing the washer, dryer, coffee table, & hutch. We drove back to our house to grab Ashley’s old twin bed, which would now be Olivia’s. The original plan called for swapping dryers, too. Even though my Maytag is a better product, Mindy’s Kenmore has a larger capacity. We already made the switch with the washers when she moved in. That plan got scrapped, however, when we realized that we’d have to change our 220 outlet to a four wire system. We decided not to bother.
Mindy decided to follow us to Ashley’s. Tommy rode with me in the truck. Kelly was there putting Ashley’s new kitchen table together when we arrived. She had Lil’ Rocky in tow, too. Things got a bit chaotic when we introduced the five of us to the mix. Kelly soon left and we got down to work. The kids played while we carried in the heavy items. Needless to say, Ashley’s apartment is not big enough for eight people –four adults – 4 kids. It was crazy for a while. Eventually, we got everything carried in and roughly where it needed to go. As anticipated, I wasn’t able to get her washer & dryer fully functioning for a couple of reasons. One, we couldn’t get the hoses on the spigot, and two, she had a three-wire 220v receptacle, too. I figured I’d get a new receptacle and hoses in the next day or two. Mindy helped Ashley get a few things straightened out before we left for home. Mindy asked if we wanted Burger King, which is conveniently around the corner from Ashley’s new digs. Tommy said no. I said yes. She agreed to fetch the food and meet us back at the storage facility. Tommy & I beat her back. We had the paperwork completed and settled up for the use of the truck. It cost me $40. Not bad at all. They covered the cost of the gas. We waited for Mindy at the door after she called to tell us that she was delayed by a train on Phillipi Rd. She arrived maybe five minutes later and we all piled into the van and drove home.
Tommy didn’t stay long, citing a need to get to his shop. I woofed down my Burger King double-cheeseburger. Mindy left for a Target shopping spree. The kids stayed home with me. Mindy was gone for about two hours. During that time I took care of some outstanding tedious chores, like sorting/filing/closing out old paid bills from 2008 & then backing up February computer files – pictures and documents.
Mindy returned home some time after 4:30pm. She wasn’t home long when I decided to make a Gentile’s run. I was hopeful to find some HopSlam! I cruised through Arlington, taking Cambridge to King Av. Eventually arriving at Gentile’s. Sadly, they didn’t have any HopSlam. I decided to try two others, though. I bought a six pack each of Founder’s Centennial IPA and then Full Sail IPA. I had tried the Full Sail while in Oregon. It was good.
I was gone no more than 40 minutes. Back home I leashed up Ykraps and took him on his evening walk. It was really quite pleasant as the sun was setting in the west. It was near 50 degrees. Back home I cracked a Founder’s. It was OK, but unfortunately not what I had hoped. About that time Mindy fetched a frozen DiGiorno’s pizza from the freezer for the kids. She bought a couple steaks that she had designs on preparing for us. However, I wasn’t that hungry having just eaten Burger King a couple hours earlier. I was just as happy to snag one or two pieces of the DiGiorno’s. Besides, I hadn’t ever tried it yet had always wanted to.
By the time the pizza was ready I was working on a Full Sail IPA. Sadly, it also lacked the full IPA flavor I crave. That’s often the trouble with the bottled variety. But don’t get me wrong. It was good – just not hoppy IPA good. In the meantime, I snagged a piece of pizza. It was lousy. I quickly realized that the marketing hype employed by DiGiorno’s was just that – marketing. It was no different than any other run of the mill frozen pizza. But as poor as it was, I had a second slice. Hey, what can I say.
After pizza, the kids headed up for a bath and jammies. Jacob took a shower instead. I helped him along. He really liked the shower in lieu of a bath. They were in bed a short time later and asleep within minutes.
It was just about 9pm. While Mindy played on the PC, I played Wii golf. During my last round I put chemicals in the hot tub. We hadn’t been in the hot tub for several weeks, and with my sore, aching shoulder it sounded awfully good. Mindy and I both headed out. Just before, I spotted Bella peaking around the corner of the balcony. I alerted her that we’d be in the hot tub to prevent a repeat of a year or so ago when they freaked out when neither of us answered their cries and called their daddy. Bella was happy I forewarned her of our whereabouts. Little did I know that she’d turn on the back spot lights, though. Thanks M/I! For whatever reason, they put a second on/off switch to the rear spots in her bedroom. We figured her peering out the window, but our physicals gestures to turn them back off went unnoticed. We decided to live with it.
Soon after we exited the hot tub, Mindy headed up for bed. But I was all about catching up on things today. I wanted to catch the rest of the movie, Super Bad, that we began watching in Gov’t Camp, Oregon. Mindy didn’t seem too thrilled, even after I asked her to watch it with me. She went on to bed. I stayed up and watched the entire movie. Turns out, it was little more than a “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” remake. I laughed at several sophomoric jokes, but in the end the movie lacked a discernable plot. It made Talladega Nights seem like an epic.
I hiked up to bed at 11pm.
