Slept till 730am. Clear start to the morning. Got coffee going then headed to my computer. Not a lot going on. Finally had some coffee in hand just ahead of 8am. Mindy was going to breakfast with her friend Teri and then going to a hair appointment. She was up and out the door by 930am. Said she didn’t expect to be home until 2pm-ish.
I thought I might head back to the 1145am Saturday yoga class in Grandview but not before getting in a
run. I headed out for that shortly after Mindy left. It was about 40 degrees and sunny. Like most Saturday’s, I ran 3 miles. Took a lot out of me again. My lower legs were stiff and tight. I had no zip or bounce.
Back from my run a little after 10am, I enjoyed more coffee and woofed down half a banana. Because I was going to yoga, I didn’t want to eat anything too substantial, especially after nearly getting sick the last time I was there. Did some writing for my blog, too. It didn’t make any sense to get a shower since I’d be working up another sweat at yoga. I did, however, take a “Brian Tippler”, washing my pits and putting on some deodorant. Left for yoga at 1115am, this time making sure to take a towel and bottled water. Of course I took my yoga mat too.
By design, I arrived early. Dan, I think is the goys name usually at the counter. He asked if I was Jay. Nope. His second guess was Jimmy. Yes. He asked why Mindy wasn’t there. I was one of the first in the class. But just like last time, it was a full class – about 20 folks. Same instructor as last time. Heather, I think is her name.
Inside the large yoga room, it was again on the warm side again, and in the back of my mind was how poorly I felt after the last yoga class. I was hopeful that wouldn’t happen again. Soon the 75 minute session was underway. Comparing the two, I’d say this one was a bit more low-key, but still intense. Intense enough that I was dripping with sweat and trying to catch my breath at every turn. I still can’t believe how quickly yoga zaps my energy reserves. And once again, I got to feeling a little queasy but not nearly as quickly and as badly as the first time in. However, by the end of the 75 minute session, I found myself craving the feeling of cool fresh air on my face. Like last time, I hustled out of the studio and out to my car.
It was 115pm by the time I arrived home. It was still sunny and about 50 degrees. Very nice! All I could think about was getting inside and lying down. Same thing happened last time. Not sure if it’s the physical exertion or what? I took a chewable Tums then laid down in bed for about 45 minutes. Of that, I might’ve fallen asleep for 15-20 minutes. I felt much better after the rest and headed downstairs where I made myself a burrito.
I didn’t want to let the lovely afternoon slip away without doing something productive in the yard. Decided to head out and hack back more of the honeysuckle bushes along the waterway. This time I used my chainsaw. Some of the branches I was cutting were 3” in diameter. The chainsaw worked far better, faster than the giant loppers. And like every other time, it always looks like far more material lying on the ground than it does standing tall and erect. I only cut back two large bushes but on the ground it looked like an entire tree.
Mindy was home between 230-3pm complete with purple hair. I asked her to come out and show me the new do. Wow! That’s purple! Before she headed back inside I asked for her help hauling the honeysuckle back to the compost pile. She went in to change into clothes more fitting for the task at hand.
We wisely left most of the cuttings intact for hauling unless the branches were too big or wide for easy dragging. We hauled about half the load back to the tree house area before cutting it up further and then heaving it onto the existing compost pile which now forms a wall about 5’ high stretching across the entire back of our lot line against a storm drain and the woods. Before I started the wall of compost some 5 or 6 years ago, the tree house area would flood after a big rain storm. Not anymore. And actually, we’ve stretched the compost wall across the neighbor’s property too. In all, we must’ve spent about 2 hours, cutting, hauling and stacking the honeysuckle. Mindy headed in for a shower while I cleaned the chainsaw and put away the tools. Still at least another afternoon’s worth of trimming we want to do, but it can wait.
Earlier, Mindy asked what I wanted to do that evening. She suggested dinner at CBC. I quickly countered with staying home, making homemade pizza and enjoying some of the craft beers we have on hand. But at that point we hadn’t fully committed either way.
I laid in the bed watching TV while Mindy showered and primped. She took her dear old time, or nearly a full hour. I got a shower after she was done. I had to stink. I ran three miles, did yoga, and then worked in the yard.
By 6pm we were in full agreement to enjoy a relaxing evening at home. At my request, Mindy put some White Rajah’s in the freezer. After a shower I put a rocket of Hop Henge in the fridge, too. Part of our agreement to stay home, I offered to make a homemade pizza and salad. Early on in the process, we discovered that we were out of pepperoni. Last I checked we had like three packages in the fridge and pantry. Unlike the last time we made a pizza, this time we used a deep dish pizza crust mix. Mindy agreed to make a quick trip to Kroger to get more pepperoni.
Pizza and salad were ready by 7pm. Instead of using a pizza pan, we used the stone muffin pan. Worked well. The pizza was really good. Mindy enjoyed a White Rajah while I enjoyed the Hop Henge. Haven’t had one of those since our Bachelor ski trip some three years prior. It was good.
Mindy had just the one beer. After finishing off the rocket of Hop Henge I enjoyed a White Rajah. Laid back evening and a rather early bedtime too. In bed by 10pm.
