Goose Poop
I was up around 540am to mostly cloudy skies. There was a slim chance of rain for the first half of the day but with the promise of clearing skies as the day progressed. Despite Monday’s rains I opted to let the irrigation run its normal schedule. After push-ups and curls I headed to the PC with coffee where I spent the next 20 minutes.
After PC time I headed to the family room for meditation and stretching. Left for a run near 635am. I ran the usual 4.1 miles under completely cloudy skies. Although it was cloudy, it was still really steamy. Once again, my shirt was soaked with sweat by the time I finished.
Back at home I cooked my breakfast and packed my lunch. I decided to make a cheese omelet with three eggs. There was enough for me, Eiknarf and Mindy. And speaking of Eiknarf, she was crying from Jacob’s room trapped behind the baby gate. Anticipating as much, I headed up and freed her then took her out on a walk. She took care of business quickly and as soon we were back at the house I served up her eggs.
I was off to the shower by 750am. Mindy was just starting to stir as I started the shower. Any by the time I was out and dressed, she was up and heading downstairs for coffee. The deck wet and the sky cloudy, we enjoyed coffee together at the island counter. Being the multi-tasker that I am, I filled out the required paperwork for the orthopedic doctor’s appointment schedule for Wednesday all the while we chatted.
I left the house for work near 830am. By then the sky was already showing signs of clearing. If nothing else, the clouds were thinning. Arrived near 850am and was quickly settled in my office. Hadn’t talked with my peer, Lance for several days. I walked over and chatted with him for a good while. I left his office smiling ear to ear. A good laugh cures lots.
I felt much better about things near lunch time. I’d all but finished my monthly report which I planned to send out before heading home for the day. The sky now sunny, I headed off to Lowes to pick-up a few things. Wisely, I sent myself a list via email that I could access from my smart phone. Otherwise, I can get there and suddenly draw a blank only to remember what I needed once I’m back at the office.
Picked up a fresh bag of wild bird seed, nails specifically for the exterior trim board replacement project, a marine grease cartridge, and a ball of natural sisal twine to use around the landscape. I looked at new pendants for our island light fixture too, but didn’t dare buy then without Mindy with me.
Back to the office by 2pm, I enjoyed my packed lunch which included sliced cheese, a sliced Roma tomato, baby carrots, and a fruit medley. Put the finishing touches on my report and sent it out then even had a chance to complete a few other nagging tasks. I thought I might get out of the office as early as 430pm, but that didn’t’ happen. Didn’t leave until 515pm or so.
Called Mindy once on the road. The kids were already gone with Jimaken, this being a dinner with dad night. We planned to stay home and eat leftovers. Our fridge is full from Sunday’s cookout. Mindy asked me to let her go so she could finish organizing the spare bedroom after spending the last two days cleaning it. Arrived home near 545pm. I wasn’t in the door even five minutes before I noticed at least 15 geese eating in my yard. I stomped off out back with my bee-bee gun. Of course they take off when they hear me coming. The piles of crap are getting bigger and bigger. And some are even bigger than Eiknarf piles. There is so much goose poop in the back 40 that one can’t take a step without stepping in it. It’s really bad. Anyway, I shot towards the flock hitting one of them on the neck. He freaked and flipped around with his head down in the water. The others left him behind.
I headed back inside where Mindy had out a spread of leftovers. We both opted for burgers and potato salad. It was all good. Clean-up was a snap. After dinner I headed out on the deck with my book and plopped down on the chaise. Mindy came over and sat on the bench next to me with a glass of wine. I read no more than two pages then closed my eyes for a brief nap. Though short, the nap was heavenly. My dad celled Mindy as I was waking. She confirmed his attendance for dinner Wednesday evening.
The weather was making a noticeable turn. By 8pm the humidity was gone and the temperature dropped a few more degrees. It was gorgeous! Mindy checked the Wednesday forecast on her phone. Sunny and 77. Nice! And almost a carbon copy of last week, it’s expected to warm each day through the weekend with an abundance of sunshine.
The kids got home near 8pm and quickly headed out in the yard to play. Jacob got out his soccer net and I headed out to join him. Soon we had all the island kids playing. It got a little crazy with as many as five soccer balls flying around at one time. I took a direct hit to the jubblies, dropping to the ground. Ouch!
Once again, one of the soccer balls ended up in the pond. Jacob got in after it. I ended my play and headed inside somewhere near 9pm. The kids, however, stayed out there playing until it was dark. Bella came in asking if she could stay the night at Emily’s. Jacob in turn asked if Evan could stay with him at our house. He wanted Mindy to ask. That’s Jacob. We insisted that he and Evan go ask. He returned confused/defeated. Apparently they told him no, but told him they both could stay at Chrissy’s house. What?
Mindy called Chrissy to sort things out, both for Jacob and for Bella, who was now saying they were staying at Chrissy’s house. Not sure what that was all about but the neighbors have seemed to have it in for Jacob dating back a few months.
It ended up that the girls were staying at Chrissy’s house but Evan wasn’t permitted to stay with Jacob.
I tuned into the NBA championship game #1 – the Heat vs. Thunder. Jacob watched a little but as up to his room by 940pm. Mindy, meanwhile, was off to bed before 10pm. I stayed up enjoying my book until almost 11pm. I placed Eiknarf in bed with Jacob before heading to my own bed. He was still up playing on his iTouch.
