G-Kids, Vikings Win, & Pork Chops

I woke around 730a and quietly fumbled my way through brushing my teeth and collecting my running clothes. Mindy woke and asked for a hug before I headed downstairs. I didn’t expect to find my mom sitting at the kitchen table but there she was. That kind of freaked me out. I prepped a pot of coffee then excused myself to the living room where I checked in with work. Once coffee was ready I made a cup for my mom and I. A few minutes later I poured some for Mindy. By then, Bella was up and went with me when I delivered it. She jumped in bed with her momma and remained there when I headed back down. I took Frankie out in the cold. Burrrrrr! She took her time but did both. Mindy told my dad to be over for breakfast at 9a. To that end, Mindy was up around 815a to start making bacon, pancakes, and eggs. I did a brief stretch on the living room floor. My dad showed up just as I was preparing to leave for a run. I dressed warmly, and for the first time all season, I wore thick cotton sweat short pants under my regular running pants. It was only about 20 degrees and there was a constant cold breeze blowing too. Made it feel like the single digits. I ran the usual Sunday route – just three miles. Breakfast was ready by the time I returned. House smelt good, a combination of pancakes and bacon. We enjoyed our breakfast and discussion. The kids headed out to play in the cold shortly after they finished. We remained inside talking. At some point, I went for a tub filled with old family photos after Mindy shared that she had never seen any pictures of Kelly when she was younger. As both my parents shared, there were few times when Kelly went out of her way to wear make-up or fix her hair. Both things drove me insane. We must’ve looked at pictures until almost noon. The day’s plan included my dad dropping my mom at the hospital. He then agreed to pick her up whenever she was ready and then drive her back home. We planned to have the grandsons over to play and for dinner. Mindy invited my mom and dad to return for dinner if they wanted. They both declined. I called Lindsey while my parents were still there. Turns out, Rocky went to visit his dad that morning and wouldn’t be coming over. Landon still wanted to come, but they were gonna have Olivia over too, while Ashley went to the OSU woman’s basketball game with her grandparents, Al & Rosemary. Learning that, I was eager to have Olivia over too. I called Ashley to see what her thoughts were. Olivia wanted to come to our house. In fact, she wanted to come right then. Too funny! Always makes me feel good. Ashley asked that I simply drop her at Kelly’s with the boys after dinner. She’d then pick her up there after the game. Cool! We had a plan. I guesstimated my arrival near 1p. Mindy, meanwhile, planned to take Jacob to a birthday party at a Hilliard bowling alley. I took a shower then left to pick-up the grand kids, picking up Olivia first. The pick-ups went fine. We were back home by 120p or so. Both kids, Landon and Olivia were excited to be there. They ran around upstairs with Bella and Jacob until Mindy left to take Jacob to his party. I entertained the wee ones for the better part of the afternoon. We took Frankie out to potty at some point. The kids went with me. They played in the tree house and then on the rope swings despite the extra cold temps. Their shoes were a muddy mess when we headed back inside. I made sure to have them remove their shoes at the door then I rinsed them clean at the sink. They went about playing inside. Mindy was back and busy wrapping Xmas presents. I kept the wee ones occupied in the living room for another hour or so. Olivia and Landon play well together. Landon is always a very good boy. Mindy left to fetch Jacob at some point. She wasn’t gone long. While out, Lindsey called her asking if she and Rocky could come over. Apparently Rocky was already home from his dad’s and wanted to be at our house. Lindsey told Mindy that his daddy tried keeping him. What a tangled web of misery! I called Lindsey back and encouraged her to ask her mother to bring them. We agreed to run everyone home after dinner. Kelly must have agreed. They showed up at our place a short while later. Meanwhile, Mindy already had dinner in the oven; baked potatoes and pork chops. She had me make the macaroni and cheese shells while she was out retrieving Jacob. Easier than I thought. Rocky is always a little more wound up than most kids, but was even more so on Sunday. For some reason, he seemed hell bent on being defiant, especially towards Lindsey. He never acts that way when it’s just Mindy & I. Mindy and I had to interject a time or two. In fact, he ended up in time out a few times. And then later, after dinner, Mindy had to spank him after being verbally defiant to his mother. She made him sit in the guest room alone afterwards. We gave the kids their Advent calendars, which reflecting back, was probably a big mistake. They didn’t want to finish their dinners but still wanted chocolate. Landon was the lone exception. He ate good!  He got to open his and catch up on the prior 4 days as well. Olivia and Rocky pleaded their case but to no avail. Mindy suggested we watch a kid movie around 7p. Good idea. We put in Rudolph. That quieted the kids. Well, everyone but Rocky. I readied to take the kids home at 745p. Rocky was defiant until we departed. I am sure that his life situation is a large contributor. I wish it were different for him. We played an alphabet game during the drive back to Kelly’s. Ashley called at 8p to let me know that they were just leaving the basketball game. She’d be picking up Olivia from Kelly’s as previously planned. The drop went well. Quick. I headed back home listening to Sirius radio - ESPN radio NFL update along the way. I was very happy that the Vikings won again this week. Two in row. Mindy and the kids were already on the sofa and had the TV tuned to SNF. They’ve been trained well. I headed up and got into my PJ’s and brushed my teeth. I retuned downstairs and poured myself a Centennial. I ended up drinking two. We tucked the kids into bed around 9p. Bella informed me that she was still hungry but too afraid to ask Mindy for a snack. I chuckled. Mindy stayed up maybe 15 minutes longer after briefly falling asleep on the sofa. I thought about giving her crap but didn’t. She headed up to bed before 930p. She hadn’t been up there for two minutes when Bella snuck down to get herself a bedtime snack. She got herself a small bowl of Cheezits and headed back up to bed. Too cute! I stayed up until almost 1030p then secured the house and penned up Frankie. It was snowing at a good clip and quite windy too. Very wintry!
