Waking early afforded me the opportunity to get a jump on my morning routine. Like most mornings, I glanced out the back door before doing much. It was cloudy. I put on my exercise shoes then headed to the living room where I whipped out 55 sit-ups. I checked the temperature and headlines before push-ups. It was 34 degrees.
Push-ups were done by 540a. It felt good to have what seemed like oodles of free time. I freed Frankie from her pen and then enjoyed a hot cup of coffee. We had Xmas music playing on the stereo compliments of Time Warner’s Music Choice. It’s been available since Monday, November 1st. All in!
Frankie and I headed out around 550a. She took her time but eventually went. Back inside I had plenty of time for meditation and stretching. I spent about 15 minutes in meditation. I could’ve gone longer but didn’t. Stretching went as normal. I was done with both by 620a. I poured Mindy’s coffee and took it and the pug upstairs well ahead of 630a.
By the time I was dressed and ready for my run, it was 630a on the nose. I ran the full 4.1 miles. It was good to get out a little early. I was back home by 707a. Mindy hollered down to ask if it was me coming in the door. When she finally came down I shared that it probably isn’t the best way to check to see if it’s me. That would only alert any would-be criminal that I was not home.
I helped Mindy get breakfast going, but still let her make the eggs. I'll bet you didn't realize that Mindy lays eggs. She shared that I turned on the wrong burner. Apparently we both have our faves. I packed my lunch while breakfast cooked. I don’t recall what Jacob had for breakfast, but Bella had fried eggs just like us. During breakfast we chatted briefly about having the boys overnight. Mindy said she thought I might ask. Thought we should ask Kelly to drop them off. I agreed to make the arrangements during the work day.
Mindy left for school around 730a. Bella and I finished our eggs then each let Frankie enjoy our spoils. I headed up for a shower around 735a. I was back downstairs by 750a, a full 7 minutes before needing to head out. I tidied up the kitchen then organized all of my work gear. The kids and I headed out at 757a – like always.
While above freezing, it seemed chillier due to the lack of sunshine. It wasn’t supposed to get much beyond 42 the entire day, maybe the chilliest day of the season yet. The bus scooped up the kids around 805a, and I scurried back home to pen Frankie and grab my work gear.
It’s official. It spit the first snow flakes of the season along my commute into the office. It wasn’t a lot, but snow flakes just the same. I was in my office a few minutes ahead of 830a. I was surprised to see my boss’s office door open. I walked down after getting settled to see what was up. He was supposed to be off last I knew.
Turns out, he came in for a specific purpose. We ended up having another impromptu meeting - he, my peer and I. That meeting lasted more than 90 minutes. He had to leave for a doctor’s appointment around 10a. My peer and I then retreated to my office immediately after that.
Around 11a I called Lindsey to inquire about having the boys. Rocky didn’t have school Friday. Both were excited about the prospect of spending the night, rowdy even. I asked Lindsey to check with her mom about dropping them off. Then, as follow-up, I sent Kelly an email inquiring about the same.
Kelly responded within the hour that she would, but also asked if she could call me. Yes. We talked for about 20-30 minutes. Sounds like she’s going to follow-through with plans to get Lindsey and the boys out of her house. We discussed the logistics of such a move. I could tell that she was conflicted, but don’t blame her at all. Left as is, Lindsey will not be changing – moving forward. I assured her that we would be there for the boys, but with certain conditions, namely legal temporary custody. I shared that it will be messy because the kids are Lindsey’s meal ticket so to speak, so even if she knows it’s for the best, there’s little incentive for her to comply. We’ll see.
I didn’t bother leaving the office at lunch. Things were quite busy in the office, and it was a Friday. Not only was it Friday, but also my on-call weekend. That put a slight damper on my otherwise good mood. I must’ve talked with Mindy around 4pm. Lindsey had already called her so she knew that Kelly agreed to drop off the boys. Mindy planned to take the kids to Target to pick-up a DVD-movie. We discussed having pizza for dinner.
I ended up leaving the office around 520p. Traffic was light and I arrived home by 540p. Mindy shared that the kids school bus was in an accident, hit a pole. The kids had to be transferred to a replacement bus. No one was hurt. Bella elaborated further sharing that a boy bothering her was the impetus for the accident. Apparently, Ms Vanorder turned around while driving to scold the young lad, and while doing so hit a pole. Wow!
Mindy was a little peeved because when the bus was 30 minutes late she phoned the transportation department only to be told that the bus broke down, and that they were waiting on a spare to arrive. A lie, perhaps, but on the other hand, I guessed they didn’t want to instill panic.
The boys arrived at our place by 550p. As always, very excited to be there. Not too much time went by before Mindy ordered the pizzas from Minelli’s. I agreed to go after them. Jacob asked if he could go along with me. Yes. But when the time came he declined. He was having a ‘Jacob’ moment, something we were reveling in being missing just the evening before.
Minelli’s was boppin’! They had a crowd dining inside and the phone orders backing up too. I waited maybe 5 minutes. All totaled, not too long. It was really cooling off outside and already around freezing. The night’s low was expected to approach 25. In fact, I forgot to share that I earlier brought in the same hibiscus we wintered over last year. I knew if I left it out one more night it would be lost. It’s really too big for our kitchen area, however. I promised Mindy to find another room for it over the weekend.
We enjoyed our pizza and the DVD movie, Furry Vengeance. The movie was predictable and stupid, but the little kids laughed hysterically. And after all, the movie was meant for them. There were a few funny parts. On & off, I had to deal with a couple work related matters even though my on-call responsibilities weren’t supposed to begin until Saturday morning. Through the evening, I sipped a 22oz Rogue Yellow Snow IPA and a CBC Pale Ale.
After the movie, Jacob and Landon both asked to go to bed. We put both Landon and Rocky in the guest bedroom. They asked to sleep with the light on. Mindy was adamant against it at first, but softened after I reminded her that we couldn’t rebuild Rome in one night. The boys have some serious security issues. Bella ended up joining them to watch TV from their room for a while.
Mindy headed to bed shortly after the kids were settled. She asked me to join her soon, but I stayed up for at least another hour watching a cool show on the History channel about Michelangelo, the Sistine Chapel, and the statue of David. I stumbled up to bed near midnight.
