SKOL Brett Favre SKOL

I was up and out of bed just after 5:30am. I was immediately drawn to the bright moonlight shining in thru the aptly named half-moon window in our master bedroom. Given the scarcity of stars the past couple of weeks, I was very excited to get outside and see ‘em. After sit-ups and push-ups I was outside with Ykraps. The moon still looked full but it was actually waning ever so slightly. The stars were visibly abundant, too, and the temperature hovered near 47 degrees. Very nice! Back home I poured coffee for Mindy and then enjoyed some of my own. I sent an email to my boss regarding taking the day off work then proceeded with stretching and meditation before heading out for my run. I dressed warmly. I was shocked to discover more knee problems at the outset of my run. It actually hurt and no matter what, I couldn’t talk myself into running with my normal gate. I was running hobbled. Panic set in right away. I feared I would have to stop right there and call my streak over. I was sad. However, somehow I persevered. I kept moving along and it seemed the more I ran the easier it got. But one thing’s for sure, my legs were tiring much quicker than normal. I was using muscles I typically don’t, I assume to compensate for my ailing knee. That in turn caused me to sweat more than normal too. I cut my run short at three miles and was happy to do it. I promised myself right then that I would keep it at 3 miles until the day I drop or heal. I’m not ready for my streak to end. I shared my scare with Mindy when I got back home. She was sympathetic to my cause. Mindy left for school at 730am like she normally does. I finished my eggs then headed up for a shower. Bella came to the master bedroom around 7:50am insisting that we were running late for the bus. I hurried the rest of my prep and rushed downstairs only to see that we were in good shape time-wise. We headed for the bus stop at 7:55am. Mindy & the kids got home around 445pm. By then, I had Rib Eye steaks seasoned and ready for the grill. Before lighting the grill I took Ykraps on his evening walk. Mindy went with. As soon as we got back home I lit the grill. At the same time, Mindy whipped up some sides – rice, broccoli and rolls. For some reason, I turned the gas on at the grill before the tank. Consequently, my grill’s safety feature kicked in, one that slows the flow of gas when started incorrectly. The grill will get no hotter than 300 degrees until it is reset. To complete the reset one must disconnect the supply hose from the burner for about a minute then reattach. That worked. Soon the grill was preheated to 550 degrees and ready for the steaks. They cooked fast – less than ten minutes. I serrated the steaks after about 7 minutes to help cook the inside a little more. That worked perfectly. They were pink and juicy inside but crisp and brown on the outside, just as we like them. While me, Mindy, and Bella were enjoying steak, Jacob wanted no part of it. Can’t recall for certain what he had in its place, but believe it was cereal. He eventually tried a bite of Mindy’s and seemed to like it. Maybe next time. Clean-up was fairly fast and simple. I was eager to ready for the big MNF game - Vikings & Packers. Beforehand, I did a little writing in my blog. At the same time, Mindy walked down to Chrissy’s. She was down there for a while. I finished blogging and moved to the family room to tune into ESPN where I took in all the pregame hype. So much was being made of this game pitting Brett Favre against his old team. It was largely speculated to be the most watched football game ever. I was anxious for kick-off. The game kicked-off around 8:40pm. The Vikings captured the early momentum with Brett Favre demonstrating his mastery of the quarterback position. We lead 21-14 at the half. Mindy headed to bed during halftime. I remained up and eager to see it through to the very end. It was 30-14 with just under 5 minutes to go. The Packers made a go of it but still came up 7 points short after a quick touchdown and field goal, along with two missed onsides kicks. I’ll admit it. I could hardly breath during the final two minutes. I was amped up. It was after midnight when the game ended. I knew I’d have a hard time getting to sleep. I must’ve laid in bed my mind still reeling for a good 45 minutes afterwards. It was worth it! SKOL Vikings SKOL
