Done with Football
I didn’t get up until 5:25am. By the time that I made my way downstairs it was 5:30am. It’s not that I was watching the clock that closely. Instead, I heard the coffee maker kicked on. I was really sleepy. Little wonder, though. I got less than five hours of sleep. Ugh!
I worked my way through a round of exercise and then bundled up for a walk with Ykraps. The weather wasn’t too bad at all, about 28 degrees and clear. By the time I had my first cup of coffee in hand it was 5:55am. I took Mindy some coffee at 6:00am. She’s still coughing profusely.
After the Daily OM and meditation, I prepared for my run. I took extra care to spend more time stretching my legs. I altered the stretch I use for my inner thigh muscles that typically ache the most. I changed from a forward stretch to more of a sideward technique. A coincidence, maybe, but for the first time in a long while I felt next to no discomfort whatsoever during the entire run, and I hadn’t taken any Ibuprofen for a few days, either. Cool! I’ll keep this new stretch technique going for a while.
The run woke me up but my eyelids were still heavier than usual. The kids were up and getting ready to depart by the time I was back home. Landon was in an extra pleasant mood, certainly much better than Monday morning. The other kids were good too, just not as happy as Landon. I started to share a recap of the Buckeye game with Jacob, who immediately retorted that his momma already filled him in.
Soon the gang was gone. After a shower, I filled a lunch container with chili to take to work for lunch. After seeing Jacob onto the bus I was off to work. Gas was up to $1.98 at Thornton’s something about the fighting in Hammas and lower demand driving the price up. Whatever! At work, the scuttle was all about the Buckeye game and what could’ve been. Hey, at least we showed up for the entire game and didn’t lose the national championship. A lot of fans, like me, expected a down year. I probably participated in 5 lengthy discussions concerning the game, and how if this happened we would’ve won. I guess that comes with the territory when you lose in the waning seconds. But just like with the Vikings, I’m ready to move on. I got it all out of my system in two days.
I never took a formal lunch break, and didn’t eat my packed lunch until very late – after 3pm. That was soon after a talk with Mindy. I also had a lengthy conversation with ex-Kelly regarding the boys and Lindsey. I just wanted to clarify where we’re at with their stay. There has been some conversation of them heading back home in mid February and I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t on our account. Mindy and I believe it makes more sense for us to keep them longer. We did have a February ski trip planned to Oregon but we’re willing to cast that aside for now. Obviously, the boys well being is of far greater importance to us. Kelly said that she never assumed anything different, but I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page. As for a time commitment, she wasn’t willing or able to give one.
I found myself at the office until just after 5:30pm. Meanwhile, the weather had taken a turn for the worse. The roads, I was told, were horrible. The traffic flow home was extra slow. Mindy mentioned a day or two ago that a young friend of hers, Danielle, would be coming over Tuesday night to see the kids. She’s in law school now and typically very busy, but she’s on Xmas break and wanted to visit while she had a chance. However, given the inclement weather, I wasn’t sure if that was still a go. I arrived home late – around 6:10pm. Danielle was there and they were all seated & eating dinner. Hmmm? Suddenly, I felt a little uncomfortable in my own house, plus I was extremely sleepy. The kids, meanwhile, were borderline out-of-control. I suppose showing off for Danielle. After I walked Ykraps, I took to the recliner to nap. I wasn’t feeling too sociable. I slept soundly for about 15 minutes or until the kids knocked down the baby gate. And when that thing falls down against the ceramic tile it makes a loud slapping sound. I woke disgusted and headed up to my bed for some uninterrupted shut eye. I napped until the kids came up for bath time. By then I felt somewhat refreshed and was hungry. I went downstairs to relax and grab a snack.
Mindy joined me downstairs after tucking in the kids. I went up to tuck them in too. Afterwards I sat at the kitchen table talking to Mindy. We went to bed early – around 9:30pm. I was still dog tired.
