Sleeping a little later these days...

When is a fork art? Ready to run. Mindy enjoying making breakfast. Incredible, but is it edible? zooming in on santa from about 100'. Mindy's brother Todd and his daughter Mia. I cracked and eye and gazed at the clock. It was 8am. After a quick hug for Mindy, I was up brushing my teeth, peeing, and heading downstairs to begin my day as I begin almost everyday. My first priority was to make some coffee, and today I chose to make some Starbucks. While the coffee brewed, I whipped out a set of sit-ups and push-ups, then headed for the great outdoors with Ykraps. I’ve noticed that he’s been very “poopy” since my return from vacation. Perhaps my dad gave him some sort of laxative. He’s going on both of his daily walks and sometimes even twice. The streets and walks were very slippery this morning. There was a thin sheet of ice on everything. This, I knew, would make for a very interesting run later in the morning. Upon my return, I readied a cup of coffee and sat down at my computer to check all of the football scores from yesterday evening. Today’s the day when the BCS announces whom they’ll be choosing for their bowl games (Rose, Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar). I determined based on yesterday’s results that the Buckeyes should be assured of an automatic BCS bid given that the number 3 and number 5 teams lost Saturday. The consensus in Columbus is that the Buckeyes will go to the Fiesta bowl and face off against Notre Dame. While doing my catching up, the princess woke up and joined me downstairs for coffee. I was a little surprised thinking instead that she would sleep for another hour or so. Nonetheless, I was happy to have her join me. It’s always been a pleasant experience sharing a quiet morning with Mindy. After about an hour of coffee and cantaloupe, I got ready to run. Mindy agreed to make breakfast. What more could a guy ask for? I get to go for a run only to return to a hot breakfast and a beautiful woman! Soon I was off on my run with music playing in my ears. I decided to skip Pink Floyd’s Animals and move on to other selections currently on board my MP3 player. It was very slippery, but I’ve gotten pretty good at running on ice over the past eight winters. On extremely slick ice I employ somewhat of a skating type gate. More than anything, though, I simply run with my eyes focused on the terrain ahead so that I can anticipate slippage and adjust my footing accordingly. Having said that, I am certainly not foolish enough to think I’m invincible. I have the utmost respect for the conditions and I am most grateful for that I’ve been able to avoid any major issues/injuries thus far. After about 35 minutes, I retuned to the aroma of maple sausage, eggs, and coffee. Yummy! We had a very nice breakfast together, and then we hung out together for the next couple of hours. Mindy’s Sunday plans included a return to the Christmas shopping frenzy with her mother, and I had plans to run a few miscellaneous errands. We also planned to meet at her mom’s later in the afternoon for dinner. Mindy left sometime around 1pm. I took off for the afternoon around 200pm with my new Canon in tow. My first stop was Home Depot, then Tuttle, and ultimately Best Buy. Mindy was expecting me at her mom’s at 430pm. It was now 410pm. I knew I needed to start heading that way. Her mother lives in Holy Hill, which is somewhat familiar territory since many of my high school era friends lived there. However, her street was one in which I wasn’t familiar with. The good news is that it is off of Holly Hill Drive so it was easy to find. I arrived with a of couple minutes to spare. I was a little nervous given that I’d just met her mother yesterday for the first time, and that her home would be filled with most of Mindy’s siblings and their families, something I haven’t experienced in a quite a while. However, due in part to my charming ways, the meet and greet went rather well. J OK, the truth is that I had met each of them before, so that took the edge off. Mindy and her mother took me around the house showing off their awesome display of family mementos. In the finished lower level she has a collection of old family photos. Now I must say, Mindy is a beautiful woman but I was still taken back at how cute she was as a baby and then again as a young girl. It was equally obvious that she was a daddy’s girl. Viewing ones family photos, I think, reveals a great deal about people. They have several group family portraits from various points In their lives. They seem to be a very warm and loving family. Also catching my eye, were the individual awards that Mindy’s mother and father had won for being “Mother” and “Father of the year”. What an honor! Yet another observation was the level of cleanliness and organization of Mindy’s mother’s home. It is very, very clean and very, very organized. You can tell that she’s a bit of a perfectionist. And I definitely appreciated a clean home. After viewing the family history, we returned upstairs for some food. Tonight we were having pizza, which was a bit of a reprieve for Mrs. Thompson (Gloria) as she normally cooks up a multiple course dinner that feeds about 12. And for such a small home it’s amazing what she’s done to extend the dining area of her home. She has a huge table just off the kitchen that seated all of us fairly comfortably. The dinner was lively and fun. There were multiple conversations taking place as one might expect at such a large table and gathering. I was pretty comfortable. We sat around the table eating pizza then a selection of desserts (apple-pear cobbler, cheesecake, chocolate cake, and cinnamon bread). While gathered around the table, we learned the fate of the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. As predicted, we would indeed be playing Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix, AZ on January 2nd. Come 7pm it was time to ready for home. I helped Mindy carry some things to the car, thanked and hugged Gloria, then headed for home. I had a really nice time with Mindy’s family. It was a little reminiscent of Sunday dinners at Grandma Lantz’s home (the good ol’ days). Once home I strung the lights on my Christmas tree and then tuned my saxophone. I hadn’t touched it to any great extent in almost a year. After editing a few photos and tending to my blog, I headed to bed. It was almost midnight. VIKINGS win 21-16 at Detroit!!! 5 game winning streak 3 road victories in a row From dead to alive! SKOL
