St Joan's Revenge

Friday was better than good. In fact, it was fantastic! The day began early. My feet hit the floor at 530am sharp! I had the required 7.25 hours of sleep my body prefers, so that set me up perfectly for the weekend ahead. As usual, I made quick work of my morning routine; exercise, walking Ykraps, coffee, meditation, and breakfast/lunch prep. And again, because of rising on time, I had a few extra minutes before departing to take some pics and pluck my guitar before starting my "business day". Despite temperatures predicted to be in the 70's, the weather forecast was still a little "iffy", so I didn't plan to drive the BM'er today. Besides, I would be stopping at the grocery on the way home, and while I can usually get all my groceries in the BM'er, I'd rather not. I drove the Trooper to work instead. Work began a little slow but heated up rather quickly. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Friday's can be a real bear at the office. I typically walk in on egg shells waiting and anticipating the bottom dropping out. Before I knew it, lunch time was upon me. I was in the gym and prepping for my run by 1230pm, just a handful of minutes behind my normal schedule. The weather was still very cooperative, yet windy, so I ran comfortably in shorts once again. I really like that! Today was a planned weight routine day too, so after my run I proceeded to knock out my dumbbell reps. For the past eight or nine years I had been doing my dumbbell routine at home every morning along with my morning push-ups and sit-ups, but because of some shoulder pain I have cut that back to every other day as well as doing it at lunch rather than right after rising. It seems to be helping tremendously. My afternoon was just as hectic as the morning, and I stayed busy right up until quitting time. As the day was wrapping up, I reflected on all I had accomplished over the course of the week. All in all it was a very productive week. As 5pm rolled around it was time to turn my attention to the weekend! I absolutely LOVE the weekend and to top it off, tonight was a Barley Friday! However, my first stop was the grocery store. In route I gave Mindy a call. She was still at school writing lesson plans and finishing grade cards. She asked what I thought about her stopping by later in the evening with one of her teacher friends, Kari. They were planning a quick shopping spree at Tuttle and thought that they'd swing by my house before heading home. I agreed but reminded Mindy that I wouldn’t be home until sometime after 630pm because of grocery shopping. She estimated that they wouldn't be here until 7pm anyway, so that seemed to work just fine. I took a little longer than normal at the grocery. Because this was a Mindy weekend, I had more food to buy. We were planning to cook dinner at home Saturday night, so I had to plan/pick-up extra items. Lucky for me, I took a few minutes before leaving work to prepare a grocery list that accounted for our home cooked meal and dessert. Still, it took about 20 minutes longer than normal. As I was heading home from the grocery, Mindy called, which I assumed was a call to tell me she was on her way. Instead, they were just leaving school and on their way to Tuttle. Perfect! That would give me the time I needed to get home, put groceries away, tend to my routine tasks, as well as relax a little. I liked the sound of that. We even talked about them simply meeting me at Barleys. If 8pm rolled around they would just stop by Barleys. They called me at 745 and said they were on their way. I waited. This is the first friend of Mindy’s that I have met. Kari teaches 2nd grade also. And just in case you are interested, she’s 27 years of age and back on the market, freshly divorced! From my perspective, she resembles Heather Graham. Mindy and Kari visited for about ½ an hour. They left for home around 830pm and I was off to Barleys. Happily, Bob and Mary Ann were present and accounted for at Barleys this evening. I had missed them the week prior. They spent the previous weekend back home with family (I think they’re from the Akron area). Tonight’s Firkin was St. Joan’s Revenge, Imperial Stout. I had just one off the firkin. It was sufficiently strong and had quite a kick! This stuff was naturally firminted in a Jack Daniels barrel. You can definitely taste the Jack! I complemented that with another, except this one was off the tower. It was similar but it wasn’t prepared in a Jack Daniels barrel so it had more of the “normal” Imperial Stout flavor, much like Guinness. I topped the evening off with a Scottish Ale. It was very good. Before leaving, I bought Mindy her own Barley’s shirt. I knew that she’d appreciate it, and that she’d look like a million dollars in it! I was home by 11pm and very, very hungry. I didn’t eat at Barleys because I knew that I had almost 1/2 a pizza left in my fridge. I warmed it up and devoured almost all of it. I was in bed before midnight. I had a busy Saturday ahead!
