Permanence: Is there really anything about me, you, or life that is permanent? Lord knows we spend huge amounts of time, effort, and dollars in an attempt to preserve, improve, or revive our looks, our bodies, and our stuff. We live in a superficial world to be sure. But regardless of how hard we try all of these things are fleeting and will be gone in the blink of an eye. None of them are permanent. Some of us might be blessed with natural good looks that last a bit longer than others but as sure as we're here they'll eventually fade. How do we define permanent? Permanent means lasting and without change. What about life, then, is permanent? Can you think of anything? As mortal beings, we tend to trivialize the concept. You need not look any further than the beauty aisle at Walmart. Look at the product/process we use to add kinky curls to our hair. We call that a "permanent" don't we? How long does that last - six months? How about our permanent residence? A home might last 100 years; but you likely won't live there longer than seven years according to the law of averages. Your car? Hmmm - it might last 20 years if you're lucky. And you're good looks certainly don't last too long. For men, if we're extremely fortunate, they might last into the early fifties then it's all down hill (well, except for me). Hell, some men are balding and building a beer belly before they leave high school and earn the right to be called a "man". And woman, well, let's just say that once they hit 30 panic sets in. Let me just stop for a second and say that I know several woman over thirty and all of you are very beautiful - still. Regardless, we've established that physical beauty and our favorite stuff isn't permanent even though we might treat it as such. What about life, then, is permanent? Let's go a little deeper than the skin for a moment. Me, I've been on earth now for forty six frikin years (I'm the exception to the balding and beer belly thing by the way). Is there any permanence to me? No - sorry - nothin'! We needn't look back any further than 8 years ago. I am not at all the same being I was then. Every single cell in my body is new. That's right. Not a one of those cells that existed during my marriage to Kelly is still around. I'm all new! I'm constantly rebuilding according to a program much more intelligent than I. What gives me this feeling of "my life' then? Memories? If one thinks for a moment, the only proof we have of our continued being is our memories. We are a collection of memories. Are we then nothing more than our past memories? Am I really the same person that sang Elvis songs at the top of my lungs at ten years of age? Am I the punk that was forever in love with Susan Mills. No, I don't think so. No permanence there. Hmmm? Stepping outside of the body we have the earth. It's been around some say for ten billion years. Does that make it permanent? Nope! Can't be. The shear fact that it had a beginning defies permanence. Ok, we now have established that my jerry curl lasts about six months and isn't permanent. Furthermore, we've established that the earth is really, really old, but it, too, isn't permanent. Where does that leave us? OK, OK...Let me get to the point - if there even is one. My stuff, me, the earth- not permanent because it all has a beginning and ending. Where's that leave us? The creative force - that program I referred to minutes ago. Whatever created the earth ten billion years ago and the program that sustains the continuing process of life which in turn directs the cells to do what they do to change, to form, to live, to die, That, perhaps, is what is permanent. The good news is that it is in each of us. We all have some permanence about us. Sadly, few of us tend to it much. After all, we don't have to. We've created these superficial lives that focus almost exclusively on the now, the non-permanent stuff. Look! There's no denying that something deep inside of you is in charge. Go inside; feel it; embrace it; celebrate it; touch it! Don't be afraid. Yeah - pass me the hookah! check out this link... <http://www.loti.com/fifties_home_perms.htm> *********************************************************************************** No wonder I woke up smiling. I began accomplishing goals right outta bed! The first goal of the day was simply to wake at 630am in preparation for a morning of golf. Bob and I planned to meet at Barley's at 9AM so that we could car pool to Split Rock leaving us an hour for travel and prep time. This left me an hour (630 - 730am) to take care of my morning ritual. I began my run at 730 sharp and was back by 805am. This left me another 15-20 minutes to water plants, take care of a few emails, and complete a few other miscellaneous tasks. I had to be in the shower and out the door by no later than 845am. I can't be rushed! Made it! I get a little panicky when I start thinking of everything I want to accomplish in a given day or over the course of and entire weekend. Lately, though, I try to remind myself to take a step back and live a little. I try my best to get the important things done and let the rest take care of itself. I have learned to let go of things that used to drive me crazy. It used to be that I couldn't bare to leave the house on a Saturday until I had completed all my laundry, put it away, and vacuumed the entire house. Essentially, nothing could be out of its place. Not so much anymore though. I found out that the world doesn't end when I skip a week of vacuuming or detailed cleaning. To summarize my golf experience, let's just say I had some good holes and some not so good holes. That's my game though - period! What a beautiful day! Got home from my golf outing around 315PM. I wasn't quite sure what I would do with the next few hours prior to Buckeye kick-off. After a small snack, a quick nap, I decided to take one more look at my hot tub leak. Jean the hot tub machine called me Friday and suggested that I dig into the foam a little deeper and look for another source of the leak. He commented that often times the water comes from somewhere other than where it drips. So I crawled back under the damn hot tub and began digging away at the foam. /After about 1.5 hours I exposed the source of the leak that I have already spent nearly $300 fixing. Instead of leaking around the light, which I isolated from the dripping finally, it is coming form the heater jet connection. Damn it! From one vantage point I am happy that I finally found the damn thing but I am also pretty frustrated to because I have spent so much time and money fixing the wrong thing. I'll sleep on it and decide how to proceed after the weekend. By the time I finished putting things away and showered, it was time to head to Bob's "Buckeye Clubhouse" party. Because I had little time to make something special, I decided to order and take a Minelli's Pizza. I love their pizza anyhow. I packed my cooler with a few Sam Adams, a couple Columbus Pale Ales, and a couple Honey Raspberry Ale's. Grandview is a beautiful city within the city. Lots of restored older homes and a good mix of people. The party went well and there were lots of Bob's neighbors - a very friendly group. Although, a few of them were very upset with the outcome of the game. I was disappointed that we lost but happy and proud of the way we played which was extremely hard and with the utmost intensity. Buckeyes lost 25-22.

Remembrance...

Today marks the first anniversary of my Grandmother Wright's passing. She passed on September 9, 2004 in the early morning hours somewhat quietly with my dad at her bedside. I love my Grandma Wright so much. She was the epitome of what's right about people. She found good in everyone and in every situation. She was a rock! I keep her close to me everyday. She has inspired me even from beyond the grave. My life has truly changed for the better due in large part to her example and her continued guidance. I love you Grandma!! You could probably guess what I'm going to say about today, right? Today is Friday, and I absolutely love Friday's This marks the beginning of yet another three day weekend for me. I asked for Monday off just so I could chill out for three consecutive days. Too, this extra time will be enable me to spend some time at the lake without feeling rushed or under the gun. Have I told you how much I can't stand being rushed? I think I have. :-) My early morning routine went as planned and the weather was once again very conducive to driving the BM'er. And after yesterday's dreadful start, I needed a BM'er day. Work went exceptionally well. It went well because I willed it to. After all, when contrasting Thursday and Friday, the only true difference was my mindset, not much else. I'll allow this to be a lesson learned and move on. "Lord I apologize for being an asshole yesterday morning. You can put me with the starving pygmy's down in New Guinea!" Dilemma!!! Oh, oh - what to do? Before thinking it through, I planned a first date with a women I just met for tonight right after work. I was worried that she would want to stay out most of the evening therefore cutting into my Barley time. Andi didn't want to take her to Barley's because I don't want to invite someone that deep into my world until I know them well and want them around me more. What to do - What to do? We planned to meet at the new Knotty Pine. It is very nice since the recent remodel. If you haven't been there, you should. We wanted a to do some patio time and they have a very nice one in the middle of old Grandview. As it turned out the good lord was smiling down on me tonight, though. She wasn't into staying out too late and it was clear that I would get the date brownie points and get to go to Barley's albeit a little late. But that's OK. I'm good! Yeah , uh huh!! By 9PM we termed our date and I was in route to my favorite watering hole. I was excited! You know, I just learned something about myself by writing about it. My priorities are much clearer now. One would think that I would have been much more excited about my date than I was, and certainly more excited than I was about going to Barley's but just wasn't how it was. We can't force feelings though, can we? Once I arrived at Barley's I saw Bob and Mary Ann right away. Bob immediately confirmed that we had a 1002AM tee time at Split Rock in Orient for Saturday. Wahoo! Lee, one of my favorite bartenders and assistant brewmaster mentioned that tomorrow was his birthday. No wonder I like him so much. He's one of me. He's a Virgo! Also, important to note, Katie was there. She is a hot little waitress that I think is all that and a bag chips! She's 24 or something like that though. A little too young, I think???? Oh well, after a couple of beers I decided to head home so I could wake early for my run and morning prep and not feel rushed. Have I told you how much I hate to be rushed!!!! Song of the Day: Sarah Mclachlan, In The Arms of an Angel
Spend all your time waiting for that second chance For the break that will make it okThere's always some reason to feel not good enough And it's hard at the end of the day I need some distraction oh beautiful release Memories seep from my veins They may be empty and weightless and maybe I'll find some peace tonight In the arms of an Angel fly away from here From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn There's vultures and thieves at your back The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies That you make up for all that you lack It don't make no difference, escaping one last time It's easier to believe In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness That brings me to my knees In the arms of an Angel far away from here From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

Practice what you preach, Jim

Perhaps some calming picture will help!!! Got up this morning ready to take on the world. Everything was going hunky dory. I went through my normal routine in preparation for work, but just before I went to hop in my car I decided to check the status of my hot tub repairs real quick. This would be the telling inspection of the additional $277 I just spent to have them replace the suspected leaky light kit. Well, guess what? Chicken Butt! Hot tub still leaks! SHIT, SHIT, SHIT!!!!! I let the bad news impact my entire day too. It really pissed me off. I even knixed the idea of driving my BM’er to work lat minute. I allowed the frustration to set the tone for my entire day! Bad Jimmy. Work, of course, was hectic! Dah! I'm not surprised. Are you? Everything I touched had a negative spin. My run was sorely needed. I ran a little faster than normal and broke into a good sweat. It was exactly 80 degrees when I left for my run again. That made three days in a row. Shoot, it was beginning to seem like Ground Hogs Day in September. I needed to leave work on time today to make my guitar lesson at 6PM. But, as luck would have it, I got stuck on an escalation that kept me there until 530PM. Boy was I stressing! Remember, I don't like to be rushed and for good reason. I don't deal with it well. It drives me crazy. It's as if I've lost controI, and most people that know me know that I am a bit of a control freak. Despite the delay and the self inflicted pressure I made it home in time, and to top it off, my instructor called and said he was caught up in Riverside Drive rush hour traffic and would be late too. But I was already so stressed inside. You know the kinda stress you can feel in your bones? I was on edge and in a bad mood. I tried to relax before he arrived. It only half worked. Again, bad Jimmy!!!! When he arrived we agreed to have a beer before we jumped into my first lesson. After all, this should be fun - right? That made a big difference and my mood began to lightened. The lesson was fun and uplifting. He showed me a few riffs and gave me some stuff to study before the next time. Furthemore, he invited me to come watch his band this Friday night at the Columbus Blues Station. I may go after a planned first date and a quick trip to Barley's. Maybe! After my lesson and a few household chores, I got in my still leaking hot tub. Despite the leak, it was very relaxing! Oh yeah, it was show me where your momma lives - good! After hot tubbing, I settled in and watched some of the NFL opener – Patriots vs. Raiders. Randy Moss caught a first half touchdown pass, but dropped a couple other key passes and was largely a non-factor after halftime. Admittedly, however, I fell asleep before it was over. The Raiders lost. Shoot. Poor Randy!!!! :) But hey, something really positive and exciting did happen for me at work Thursday that I forgot to share earlier. I won the ebay bidding for Viking/Bengals tickets right on the 50 yard line!!!! Wahoo!!!!!

Let's be reminded that are troubles are small

I want to express my deepest sympathy and compassion for those suffering through the horrible after math of hurricane Katrina. It's hard to fathom what these people must be going through. Without question it makes all of my little problems seem meaningless and certainly insignificant. And I haven't forgot about Ashley's god parents (Ken and Martha Beasley) who live(d) in Slidell, a suburb of New Orleans. My prayers are with them and I hope that they're fine. Above are some pictures sent to me via a friend of the devastation. Great day to be alive! Today's the day. Today's the day that my hot tub dude shows up to relieve my hot tub misery once and for all. I am excited! Today also marked the second day in a row that the temperature ws exactly 80 degrees when I left for my run. Of course the cloudless sky only added to the perfection. Thus far, September has been a total joy! My boss would like for me to finalize the hiring process for the two opening I have. I am trying but don't want to be sorry either. I'd rather think it through very carefully so that I don't end up with a mistake that I can't get rid of later. I'm sure the right choices will come to me. Without sounding to prideful, I am pretty good at selecting talent. I don't sweat it, I simply allow the right choice to come to me. I've done the hard work. When I got home I checked the work of the hot tub guy. The work looked much cleaner and more professional than the other dude I had out earlier in the summer. He left the hot tub dry, however, so the true test would be tomorrow morning after it is filled, warmed and has ran for a few hours. Today was also grass cutting day. I couldn't stand to let it go another day. Plus, tomorrow is guitar lessons so realistically, if I didn't do it today, it wouldn't get done until the weekend and that would get in the way of football, boating, & golf. Can't have that! No sir. I finished up the lawn chores sometime around 730PM. And, yes, it is getting darker earlier these days - boo hoo! I practiced guitar late into the evening. I don't want to appear rusty to my new instructor tomorrow. Although, one could argue that is why I hired him!

Take a month or three

three pics of Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon 9/6/2005 What a struggle it is to muster the motivation to head back to work after a long holiday weekend. I was just getting used to chilling! That's what's wrong with the American work culture. We rarely if ever take enough time off from work to gain an entirely different perspective. We don't do this for a number of reasons. One being that most people can't afford to be off that long, and, of course, many employers don't offer us that much time off in the first place. I can count on one hand how many of my engineers will take more than one week off at a time even though some of them have five and six weeks vacation coming this year. I am the same way. But wouldn't it be nice to take an entire month off of work, or even better, how about three months? You could drive across country at a leisurely pace or perhaps even sail to Europe. What's more, you might even fall in love! Nah!!! What was I thinking? I don't care who you are, that's crazy talk right there. Seriously though, I think the biggest benefit would be the opportunity to form a new perspective on our life. Getting away does that. Instead, though, we take our one week vacations, and just about the time we totally forget about work and all its silly little issues and problems, it's time to mentally prepare to go back. And even though we like to quote the phrase, I've never met anyone who on their death bed said they wished they'd spent more time at the office, most of us never take heed. Hmmm??????????????? Grasp the moment. Don't look to far ahead. Smell the roses today. blah, blah blah... It was nice waking to the aroma of freshly brewed hazelnut coffee this morning. That alone excited me enough to get up and get moving some time around 545am. Some days I just can't wait for that first cup of coffee. In fact, what am I thinking? That's most days!! Of course I have my little quirks. I never have coffee until I have exercised and walked Sparky. It's like my right of passage. Jean-Jean the hot tub machine called me to day to confirm an appointment to fix my hot tub once and for all tomorrow. He asked that I have it drained and the three leaky hoses marked somehow so they're certain what needs fixed. I assured him that I would follow through. Josh, my brand new guitar instructor called early evening to confirm our first official lesson for this coming Thursday. We're on! He's planning to arrive around 6PM and we're gonna go for an hour every other Thursday and see how that goes. Hopefully it will work out for both of us. Tonight promised to provide another spectacular view of Venus and Jupiter. Tonight's added bonus will be the insertion of the crescent moon. As you see from the pics, it didn't disappoint. What I would've given to have seen this view from the country, without all the light pollution. And just so no one forgets, this week is NFL kick-off week! Received an invite to cousin Susan's wedding in Pleasant Gardens, North Carolina. The wedding is planned for Saturday, October 1. I may go, but I am not for sure at this point. Come to think of it, I don't think that I have ever met Susan. She is a bit younger than all of her brothers and sisters. However, I do know all of her siblings and of course her mom and dad. That might be a fun weekend trip. I'll survey other family members to see who might be going. I talked with Lindsey today, too. My intent was just to touch base and tell her that I loved her. Song of the day: Cold Play, Green Eyes Honey you are a rock Upon which I stand And I come here to talk I hope you understand The green eyes Yeah the spotlightShines upon you And how could AnybodyDeny you I came here with a load And it feels so much lighter Now I met you Honey you should know That I could never go on Without you Green eyes Honey you are the sea Upon which I float And I came here to talk I think you should know That green eyes You're the one that I wanted to find And anyone who tried to deny you, Must be out of their mind Because I came here with a load And it feels so much lighter since I met you And honey you should know, That I could never go on Without you Green eyes, green eyes, ohohoh... Honey you are a rock Upon which I stand

Drops of Jupiter - Sunday/Monday

pics: sunrise over the rolling hills at run time, intersection, bikers in my view, and ME driving! I wish I could have photographed last night's star lit sky for everyone's viewing. It was nothing short of "take your breath away" beautiful. I haven't seen a sky like that for years - maybe ever! The cool, country sky was crystal clear, leaving behind an unparalleled view into the depths of heaven. After the sun set around 8PM, the western horizon turned a deep amber while at the same time Venus and Jupiter came into clear view. That alone was fascinating! <http://www.universetoday.com/am/publish/moon_venus_jupiter_in_beautiful_sunset.html> Not long after the two planets danced together, the stars came out in full glory! Not wanting to waste or lose the visual and spiritual impact, I quietly strayed from the pack and went off on my own and stared into the night time sky for about an hour. When I returned, everyone was talking about the beautiful sky. Just then, a couple of us, while staring contently into the heavens, caught a glimpse of a "shooting star" descending downward in the northern sky. I'm telling you, the sky was unbelievable! I saw stars behind stars, and even more stars behind those. The sky was chalked so full of stars that they formed cloud like structures that you see in pictures or on television. I can't help but think that I need to get away from the city more often, if not for a lifetime, to live that experience over and over. I imagine myself being with the one I love atop perhaps the highest peak in the forest overlooking a huge body of water on a crystal clear night being rendered speechless by the view of the stars. There's no need for words because we're so connected. That's special! Sunday morning was cool and crisp, just like one might expect of a September morning. Because it was the weekend, I took a little extra time with my morning ritual. I didn't get out to run until sometime after 9AM. It was still great, though. And by the way, I happened upon the first official leaf piles of the season (another sure sign that autumn is here or right around the corner). As I turned for home, the once cool morning air was warming quickly. Once back home, I had plenty to do in preparation for my overnight trip to Chillicothe. I had to ready my car, pack my things, stock my coolers, get some ice, ensure Sparky's comfort, and take back a boat cover I bought the evening prior (wrong size). Being the organized being that I am, I take great pride in making sure I have everything I will need, whether I'm going to an afternoon cookout, an overnighter, or a two week get-away. Just ask anyone who saw the back of my Trooper! I like to be prepared! As usual, I left plenty of time for myself to get those things done. I don't like to feel rushed :) This was my third trip to Randy and Dodie's this summer. I have enjoyed each one. This was a cookout to celebrate Labor Day ( likely one of the last of the summer season). The 49 mile drive went really fast and I made it a point to snap a few pics while driving (see attachments). I arrived shortly after 330PM. I passed Dodie and a car load just as I turned off of Westfall onto Bier Run, so I was one of only a few folks at their home upon my arrival. After a quick greeting, I took off on foot with my camera to take in the country view that I've become so fond of. I get to experience it on my morning runs, which are heavenly, but I've yet to casually walk the country side with the intent of taking it all in. That was my goal! My walk took me south on Westfall to just north of RT 35. Keep in mind that these are two lane country roads and the natives don't seem too inclined to give "walkers" any feeling of comfort by moving over the center line a little. No sir! Instead, I had to be on full alert for a potential MacGyver type get-outta-the-way drainage ditch dive! I was out for about an hour and saw some nice scenery, some pretty homes, a and couple of cool photo ops. I even met a pretty young lady on the corner after her dogs launched a full assault. I think they could sense I was a city boy - go figure! While on my walk, my brother Bob and his family passed me - obviously they missed the Bier-Run turn off of Westfall! Too, Dodie and company passed me on their way back from the local Sunflower Festival (these country folks will celebrate anything). Case and point, I passed one particular farm home where they were celebrating the circumcision of their bull. You should've seen the funny hat they had him wearing! Back at the Schilling residence it was time to kick back, drink a few beers, and eat some good food. And there was plenty of good stuff to eat, too. There was barbequed chicken, pasta salad, potato salad, taco salad, hot dogs, baked beans, and BEER! Some wonderful cook even made some to-die-for extra thick, triple chocolate fudge brownies! Everything was good! And while the mood was calm and quiet, we had a nice afternoon and evening. Of course it wouldn't be a cookout at the Schilling's without some cornhole, hillbilly golf, and volley ball. Truth be told, however, we haven't played volleyball in a long while, so it was nice to hit it around a little. I talked about the magnificent star show in my opening - it's rightful place. Moving forward, we had a comfortable bonfire and hung out around its homey warmth for the duration of the evening. Everyone seemed a little tired and quiet tonight. Not sure why. Perhaps everyone had spent too much of their personal party energy on Friday and Saturday night - who knows. I think I set a record. I was asleep before 2AM. I slept in the basement family room. It's very comfortable down there, especially with an air mattress, pillow, and sleeping bag. I woke around 730AM (just as planned) to exercise and take off for my much anticipated countryside run. The morning air was quite chilly as the sun was just coming up over the rolling hills. There were several dense patches of fog in the low lying areas making for a very picturesque run. I went a little further than I've gone before - maybe an extra 1/4 mile. It was really nice and almost effortless for the beautiful scenery and the lack of a hangover. Once back, Dodie and I picked up the leftover party trash in the yard while Randy & Connie readied themselves for work. Both had abbreviated work schedules planned for the Labor Day holiday. We were all ready to leave around 10AM. I think that Dodie was happy for us to go, too! After all, she's put up with a house full for several weekends this summer. I gave brother Shawn and his two children, Shawn and Brooklyn, a ride to my dad and Sheila's place. After dropping them I headed home for some coffee, a nap, reading, and some chores.

And still there is more...

Connie showing off her new air-compressor. She's not quite sure what to do with it yet, but, as she put it, "you just can't pass up a bargin"! I think my Dad got his wires crossed (zoom in). He was the only one that showed up for his Labor Day bonfire. I'm certain we told him it was at the Schilling's this year. Yikes!!! Shawn's noticeably sad. Woody reminds him so much of Old Yeller. Jupiter and Venus from my home Monday night. Sorry for the street light pollution! Found this Monarch chilling along Westfall. Build it and they will come...

You're gonna love these...

VIKESROCK Bottling Company...

If I could, I'd bottle up this fantastic weather and save it for just the right occasion. I'd bottle enough to last for, oh, I don't know, maybe three months. I'd pull it out right after the Super Bowl. Let's see, I could use born on dating to commemorate the day that specific weather was created. And I'd definitely add a high alcohol content if for no other reason than to keep it interesting! The A/C is off, the windows are open, and a welcome cool breeze rushes through my home. And as a bonus I have the added effect of sukata's, crickets, tree frogs, or whatever it is that makes that incessant screeching sound playing rather loudly in my ears! Whatever they are, I enjoy the sound immensely. Shhhhh... Be really quiet, and don't say anything. My lawn thinks it's spring and I am not inclined to tell it any different. It is absolutely beautiful and growing like crazy. That hurricane rain was just what the lawn doctor ordered. I layed down some fertilizer mid June and we didn't really have much rain after that. I suspect that it is what's energizing my lawn right now. I just cut it Thursday and it could already be cut again. I won't cut it again, however, for another couple of days. Today my goals were simple, after watching the OSU game I planned to do a little Krogering/Walmarting to pick up some beer, food, etc for Dodie's get-together tomorrow. I planned to make and take some potato salad, brownies, and homemade salsa. I am such a good cook/chef. Just ask me - yep! I picked up some Sam Adams, Columbus Pale Ale, and another bottle of Raspberry Vodka! Geesh - by the sound of that you'd think I was a drunk. Of course that's notthe case, but I do like to have fun and cut loose every now and then. Who doesn't? Buckeye commentary... Sure, the Buckeyes won and won rather handedly (34-14). But does anyone else think that Justin Zwick looks a little tentative, and that our offensive line is still suspect? I suppose Zwick hasn't really had that much opportunity to gel as a major college quarterback so I'll cut him some slack, but the offensive line - please! Not complaining but instead exposing a weakness. Honestly, if there is one glaring set back growing out of the Jim Tressel era it is that we don't seem to be getting the same caliber of lineman that OSU has been known for ( Pancake, Korey Stringer). He did bring us a National Championship, so, again, I am not complaining but rather just making a point. Oh well, know this, if we can't get an extra strong running game going, we won't be able to beat the likes of Texas, Iowa, and Michigan. Write it down! BTW - I wonder if Michele Pfeiffer's busy tonight? I think she's the most beautiful woman in the world. If you happen to see her, will you tell her that I love her. Homemade Hot wings, guitar, Cold Play, stars...

Labor Day Weekend

Pics: morning on my deck, afternoon in my favorite reading chair, and Sparky meditating in his favorite chair. Happy birthday to David Waters. He's 46 today. David was one of my closest childhood friends. For a while, we did everything together including moving to Florida after high school graduation. Sadly, I haven't seen him in probably 15 years or so. However, I do speak with his ex-wife (Jamie) every couple of weeks or so. She tells me that David's doing fine and has dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. We used to raise quite a bit of hell together to be sure. One of my most memorable moments was when David and Geno (another childhood friend who moved to Florida with us) entered a male go-go dancer competition in Ft Pierce, Florida. David was doing some serious pole dancing, and unless I am mistaken, he won the competition. Plus, he brought home some fat dancer that he couldn't seem to shake (sorry Jamie). David was always excellent at picking up the ladies. He always kept our home full of hot little Florida chicks. "One time, at band camp" he hooked me up with the prettiest girl I think I had ever seen. Can't recall her name now, but she was slender and had long Cher like hair and big beautiful eyes and lips!! She was HOT! But you know what? I wouldn't allow her into my world. Nope! I was in love with a girl back in Columbus. Oh dear! What a fool I was. Barley Friday was another wonderful day in Columbus. And if that wasn't enough, it was also the beginning of a long holiday weekend!!! This is my favorite day of the week, hands down. It represents freedom, why I work, and fun! Nothing feels quite as good as waking to realize that it's a Barley Friday. I spent the majority of my work day working through some hurricane related issues for some of our largest customers. It's really sad to see and hear what's transpiring down there. It's like a war zone! There are stories of folks wielding guns at paramedics making it difficult to carry out humanitarian efforts. Furthermore, there are several accounts of looting from businesses as well as private homes. I will refrain from passing judgment on anyone dealing with the tragic fallout of the hurricane. I am sure there is an insurmountable amount of fear, stress, hunger, and pain. And under those conditions, you just don't know what one might be capable of doing. At times like these, I am very proud of my company. We are offering to match a Katrina donation 2 for1 (If I donate $100 they will throw in another $200). I could hardly wait to get in my BM'er and head home for the evening. The day was still spectacular! At home I took a brief nap after walking Sparky. I was very relaxed. My friend, Teri Vereb gave me a call around 630PM or so. It was good to talk with her. She told me that she's coming home next week. I finished up a load of laundry and then headed to Barley's. I drove my BM'er, of course, and what a nice drive it was. Tonight I enjoyed a couple Oatmeal Stouts, a Pale Ale, and a Gumball Head (guest beer). I think it's an IPA. Bob and Mary Ann invited me to their "garage party" for the Buckeye home opener. I also had an invite to Pat and Lisa's, my neighbors. Not sure what I'll do. I may stay home and watch the game alone. I don't like to drink during the day because it makes me lethargic and tired for the remainder of the evening. And that's never fun! The Vikings played the Seattle Seahawks tonight and won! They won on the final play of the game by kicking a 33 yard field goal (23-21). Go Vikes! Now we wait for the beginning of the regular season!

Hey did someone change the sheets?

September morning pics ...just can't beat them! I'm back! I'm finally back in my groove. I woke this morning around 530AM feeling completely rested and ready to tackle the world! The morning was almost perfect. It was cloudless and mildly warm, just like you'd expect of early September. God, do I love days like this! I enjoyed each task in my morning routine a little more because of the improved conditions. My push-ups and sit-ups went without a hitch. My walk with Sparky was simpy beautiful. The stars were still out and the sky was a deep indigo blue with just a hint that the sun was on the rise. I went about my normal routine with a little extra spunk in my get-along. And because I have gotten up a little late for the last couple of weeks, I seemed to have plenty of "screw off time" before I had to leave the house for work. I spent this extra time playing guitar. What a great way to begin the work day! And you had to know that this was a BM'er day for certain! Crisp blue skies, warm temps, top down, tunes blaring - Wahoo! It was a great drive into work. What a contrast - Tuesday to Thursday. As one would expect, my mood was slightly elevated once at the office. I was just happy to be alive, gainfully employed, and so, so good looking !!! :0) I toyed with the idea of asking for Friday off so that I could go into premature weekend bliss! But I didn't. I couldn't get my self to ask the boss. Not that he's a tyrant by any means, but with hurricane Katrina wrecking havoc with our facilities and customers down in the bayou, it just didn't seem like a wise move. Reflecting back, it was a wise choice. I mentioned yesterday that today was golf championship day. I received two emails from team members asking me to play and pull someone else out of rotation. I appreciated the kind gesture but I decided to leave things as they were. And as much as I would like to have played, I wanted all of the team members to feel part of the experience. I get plenty of pleasure in life. More than most others for sure! I mean, heck, I get the pleasure of seeing myself everyday! Duh! As I alluded to earlier. It's Septermber! The month of my birth and the month of football. I love this month. What's so surprising is how the weather, almost on queue, changed from damp and dreary to near perfect conditions. The best way I can descirbe it is like putting fresh sheets on the bed. What a difference! You'd think that my run would have been spectacular too, given my elevated mood and the chamber typer weather, but it wasn't. I was a bit sluggish, especially for the first couple of miles. After the turn I snapped out of it though and put on a full sprint to finish. Did I mention how good I looked today? I secretly conspired to go home and tend to my yard after work in lieu of going to the golf course to root for my team. I just felt that my time was better spent tending to my tall grass rather than drinking beer on the golf course. So, by 730PM my lawn was looking spiffy again! As usual, I blogged, played guitar, surfed, and watched a little football before going to bed. Song of the Day: Neil Diamond, September Morn ……… Stay for just a whileStay, and let me look at youIt’s been so long, I hardly knew youStanding in the doorStay with me a whileI only want to talk to youWe’ve traveled halfway ’round the worldTo find ourselves againSeptember mornWe danced until the night became a brand new dayTwo lovers playing scenes from some romantic playSeptember morning still can make me feel this wayLook at what you’ve doneWhy, you’ve become a grown-up girlI still can hear you cryin’In the corner of your roomAnd look how far we’ve comeSo far from where we used to beBut not so far that we’ve forgottenHow it was beforeSeptember mornDo you remember how we danced that night awayTwo lovers playing scenes from some romantic playSeptember morning still can make me feel this way

Half Rain - Half Sun

The day was ushered in with rain, but ushered out with a beautiful sunset. A tale of two different days indeed. As much as we needed the rain, and I welcomed it, I was happy to see the sun again. I simply could not live where the sun doesn't shine for days on end. It would be the end of me. Talk to me in Feb and March - you'll see. I slept till 637AM today. That is over an hour later than normal. I don't know what's going on. I went to bed at 1030PM and fell asleep almost immediately. I must have been really exhausted, but I am not sure why?? Despite waking late, I didn't rush myself. I was willing to be a little late to work. After all, I've been staying late for the past couple of weeks. What's the big deal! I went ahead with my normal morning routine as if I had awaken at my regular time. Remember, I can not stand to feel rushed or under pressure in the AM. I completed another interview today but only one. I really pushed hard to get through six of them the day prior. My daily run took place during the metamorphosis from clouds to sun. It was a good run, and I ran really fast. I was harboring some work related anger, and when that happens I tend to run a little faster. Go figure. I kknow I shouldn't allow work to anger me, but ,hell, I'm human too. Sometimes it gets to the most well intended individuals. Today was bill paying day. I don't look forward to them as much as I used to for some reason. It really's like playing a video game about numbers - no big deal. I talked with Lindsey today. She tells me that her new phone service is working supremely. She loves me! I filled my hot tub up again this evening. It had lost a couple inches of water over the course of the last ten days. Waiting on All Season's Spas to call me with a date that they're going to instal lthe new light kit.. Today was the second day of the new school year for Hilliard children (they're special) My golf team plays in the championship tomorrow. I have opted to sit out to allow everyone else to play. Surprisingly, I ended up tied with the lowest handicap on our team (9). Just as I knew would happen, my game began coming around toward the end of the season. Prior to this spring, I hadn't golfed since fall of 2003. I didn't get out once in 2004. I am like that with golf. I have so many other things I like to do with my leisure time. I'll likely remain that way too. Gas was over $3 a gallon at many stations on the way home. I filled up on Monday for $2.43. I am feeling pretty good about that. What the hell is going on? Bush, is he the man for the job? I'm not so sure anymore. Not sure if he or anyone can do anything about these spiraling gas prices, though. One thing that sticks in my crawl is that he's a "oil man". Without it, his family name would be nothing. Can't help but feel there's something to it . I see a correlation. Do you? And if you think back, ever since he took office gas prices have more than doubled. In fact, we were paying under $1.20 per gallon at the end of the Clinton era. Let's see... a little T&A - cheap gas. A little integrity-expensive gas and war. Hmmm? How about Hilliary in 2008? I don't feel bad for voting for him in 2004, however. Kerry certainly wasn't the answer. He was clueless then and still is. Song of the day: Kenny Chesney, A Lot of Things Different: I’d spent a lot more time out in the pouring rain without an umbrellaCovering my headAnd I’d stood up to that bully when he pushed and called me namesBut I was too afraidAnd I’d gone on and saw Elvis that night he came to townMama said I couldn'tAnd I'd went skinny dipping with Jenny Carson that time she dared me toBut I didn'tOh I, I’d done a lot of things differentI wish I’d spent more time with my dad when he was aliveNow I don't have the chanceAnd I wish I'd told my brother how much I loved him before he went off to warBut I just shook his handI wish I’d gone to church on Sunday morning when my grandma begged me toBut I was afraid of GodI wish I would of listened when they said boy you're gonna wish you hadn'tBut I wouldn'tOh I, I’d done a lot of things differentPeople say they wouldn't change a thing Even if they couldOh but I wouldThere was this red dress she wanted one time so bad she could taste itI shoulda bought it, but I didn'tShe wanted to paint our bedroom yellow and trim it in blues and greensBut I wouldn't let her, it wouldn't of hurt nothingShe loved, to be held and kissed and touchedBut I didn't do it, not nearly enoughAnd If I’d had known that dance was gonna be our last danceI'd asked that band to play on and on, on and on Oh I, I’d done a lot of things differentPeople say they wouldn't change a thing Even if they couldOh but I would, oohOh I, I’d done a lot of things differentOh I, I’d done a lot of thingsI think we'd all do a lot of things different.
